Portuguese has the same thing. The textbook way to say "we live" is "nós vivemos", but it's very common to hear the colloquial "a gente vive" (lit. "the people live"; this "people" actually means "we"!). This "vive" conjugation is the same as for he/she/it.

Now that I had to think about it to explain it, it really sounds insane...
