Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

As a general rule:
Se rendre compte = realize (notice, perceive - e.g. I realized I had left the door open)
Réaliser = realize (make real - e.g. He realized his dream in a matter of months.)

You'll sometimes see people using "réaliser" instead of "se rendre compte" because of English, though. I'd say it's best to stick to "se rendre compte" until you get a feel for it, but the meanings aren't generally very ambiguous so ultimately it's up to you
