Yeah, you could think of it as he/him. It's not something we do in English, but it's definitely done on French literature

He would work here. In this case, I'm not sure how you'd decide between -ci and -là. I imagine it has to do with the fact that the narrator was just talking about the Prince though (l'arrivée du petit prince), so -ci is the correct one to refer to him
