Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
y is used to denote a place - it's a direct object to be precise
Je vais chez le medecin → J'y vais
lui is used for people (singular)
Je parle à mon ami → Je lui parle
"chez le médecin" the propositional phrase refers to a location, because it could be replaced by "Vas tu à la bibliothèque"..
Don't get distracted by the fact that it's "le médecin"
Chez le médecin answers the question "où vas-tu ?".
The indirect pronoun replaces the indirect object that answers the question "à quoi vas-tu ?" which doesn't make much sense.
