It's the same as communication verbs, which use à for the most part. I can hardly see "de quelqu'un" being used if you're interacting with that person

In a nutshell:
Verbe + à means that the action goes from you to somebody.
Verbe + de means that the action goes from somebody to you.

Acheter falls in the former case as you give money to the merchant to get something.
