You use the definite article when the noun refers to the specific instance in question, not the type of noun as a generic sense (if that makes sense: it's hard to put precise words on these things), liek for example:
-vitesse du jeu = speed of the game (the speed the game is being played at)
-vitesse de jeu = game speed (one of the speeds that this type of game can be played at: the "speed of playing" in a sense)
In this case, both du and de would work just fine
