Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Is this word a conjugation of "avoir"?? And is it often used nowadays?
Am I right to think that it could be changed by AVIONS
You're right yes, that's the passé simple form of « avoir » used in the passé antérieur tense. The passé antérieur and passé simple are both literary tenses so you won't find them much in oral speech.
And yes, the passé antérieur (nous eûmes marché) is the literary equivalent of the plus-que-parfait (nous avions marché) just like how the passé simple (nous marchâmes) is the literary equivalent of the passé composé (nous avons marché)
