hi, it's because it basically means one of them is standing and one of them is sitting.
Here are two boys: this one is standing and this one is sitting.
If you wrote ceux-ci and ceux-là, the meaning would have to be these and those, which doesn't work, especially if you consider you only have two boys to choose from
