structure question?

I'm feeling a little off about my structure in these sentences:
J'étais un peu terrifiée avant de commencer. À ce point, cependant, je trouve que le roman est approchable.
Are those expressions (avant de/à ce point, cependant) being used properly, or am I anglicising?
