#Why "le" fils de louis not just fils de louis?

Duolingo marks "fils de Louis" wrong but "Le fils de Louis" as right. If the prompt was to simply translate "Louis's son", wouldn't that make "Le fils de Louis" wrong because it means "The son of Louis"? At least that's what the translators are indicating towards...
Nouns need to have articles
