You can actualy find both versions as a translation of Boxers/Yihequan, as evidenced by this article: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poings_de_la_justice_et_de_la_concorde
The one with the article seems more prominent but you can sometimes find the one without it, like here.

le roi des glaces sounds like the king of ice cubes no?

"des glaces" is ice cream or ice chunks

Hadn't really thought about that but I think des glaces in this case refers to the icy lands (banquises, glaciers, etc.).
