Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

It's a tad on the casual side of neutral, but it's the quickest way to say it so it's probably the most common way, especially orally helper_thinking
It's pretty common to precede it with a greeting, and adding "comment" can make it a bit more clear that you're genuinely asking (ça va can also be used for "you good?" if someone seems hurt or sad or something for example)
