In spoken French, when the preposition à is followed by a word beginning with the letter a, is it normal to run them together into a single "a" sound or do people typically separate them with a glottal stop?
For example:
"J'ai commencé à apprendre le français l'année dernière."
I find it quite difficult to vocalise "à apprendre" (probably for the same reason that the word "an" exists in English), but running the two 'a' sounds together might make it indistinguishable from "commencé à prendre"
