<ille> isn't always consistent
some word get pronounced /ij/ and others /il/
it's just a matter of memorization
words ending in <il> (or <ils> when they're plural) are either pronounced /i/ or /il/, some words can use either pronunciation (depending on dialect) but others must be pronounced /il/ - this is simply about memorization
there's also the very common word "fils" (son) which is pronounced /fis/
… there's not a reason for this, but it's just something you need to remember
however the word "fil" (thread) which can be pluralized to "fils" is still pronounced /fil/, even in the plural
