A softban is initiated when you perform an action. "Cooldown" is the term used for the amount of time you have to wait from the point where softban was initiated to when you can start catching in the other location @lavish escarp

But they're also commonly used for the same thing

Question: how rare is Riolu?

Today I learned something fun about cooldown. I really wanted that level 33 chansey however the #bot_commands recommended that I use a 2 hour cooldown before catching it. I had a hour and a half for that to happen but I really wanted it, so I engaged it and just let it sit while I'm watching TV for the next hour and a half, then tried to catch it. No issue. I got it. I had wondered if the Softban would apply based on when you actually throw the ball, or when you engaged the mon.
