Make a 3 block wide hellevator blocking thorns with ropes/non corruptible blocks in the way shown by image
Explanation why this format is optimal for the most effectiveness and time to make based off testing - as you can see from the image (left side before the biomes spread, right side after they spread) a 2 block wide hellevator is ineffective however a 3 block wide hellevator will stop block spread (I surrounded them with non-corruptible blocks to show the maximum distance that blocks can spread corruption/crimson/hallowed) without interference from thorns, however thorns can spread corruption/crimson as you can see from the middle row (which is 3 blocks wide) so they have to be blocked, you can do this with ropes (the easiest method) or non-corruptible blocks as shown in the top row, grass/thorns can't grow underground so you only have to block thorns from surface to the underground layer.

Fine then. Everyone plays differently. The reason I do that is because 1. The Wall is super fast and I'd rather focus on dps than navigating through buildings 2. Its a handy hardmode mining shaft that usually isnt hallowed or corrupted vs a standard middle of world hellevator.
