in about 50 hours of playtime very roughly my world went from 8-20 percent crimson as I went into hardmode, but with just an hour or two of mining, you can easily protect your jungle and house and whatever else

just make sure to build 3 or 4 wide tunnels and line the outside wall with wood

and I had no protections
