get some wood and start building houses for npcs to move into. These houses need walls, a table, a chair, and lighting.

don't bother with wood armor made with regular wood, the three total defense will barely help, and you'll likely replace it with gold/platinum not long after

still feels like the wood could go toward something better, besides, copper and tin aren't rare near the surface so using those instead would provide more than regular wood

cactus armor could be a good choice before getting access to enough gold or platinum to make armor, mainly because of the set bonus dealing damage when an enemy contacts you
