fully purifying it just gives an achievement lol. other than that it just stops your houses from being infected which forces npcs to move out and deactivates pylons
in a normal playthrough, complete annihilation is overkill. just trying to keep it away from your housing is good enough and anything more wont add much. you want evil biomes for loot and enemies from them anyway
