If you're using a bow, try to get to the snow biome. Once you get there, collect a bunch of ice blocks, combine them with torches to make ice torches, then combine those ice torches with wooden arrows to make frostburn arrows. Besides being easy to make, frostburn arrows are also good because they do more damage than fire arrows, as well as being waterproof.
