A: I only ever use like one of three long hairstyles. I'm horribly biased.

A: 15x15. I could definitely do higher ones, but I really like the one app I'm using and that's the max size for it.

A: Jared is an Adult Eidolon Wyrm, an enemy with millions of health that will one shot the player and can only take 1-2 damage per hit. However, it is possible to unintentionally spawn one at the base of the player, and he will spawn in a passive state. So it happened and I took him on a tour of the world and brought him back home in the abyss. We stay in touch over the phone.

A: See, the secret is accepting that everybody hates you.

A: Kinda cheating, but I love Za Hando specifically because of how it really represents Okuyasu well. That dynamic is a very enjoyable one in my eyes. Purple Haze also does this extremely well.

A: I can't say top 3, but Absol is #1 always and forever.

A: I really like jumping with a hook to move fast when you don't have Hermes Boots yet. Very fun and moderately skillful.

A: Tough question. I don't really necessarily stick by beliefs as much as I just act the way that I like to act. I think it's just extremely important to be real with people, to be open and forward communicating with others, and to not be afraid about getting emotional. Making truly good connections in this world requires those kinds of things, and since my whole job and free time is spent doing these things, they're really important to me. I live through the positive experiences I have with other people, so I do my best to give positive experiences back to them.

A: Spelunky!!! And Celeste. That actually might be my third favorite game, now that I think about it. Platformers are very cool.

Hi there! I'm super excited for 1.4, thank you for not rushing it, and for all of the work that you put into making it polished and balanced! I was just wondering if Master Mode is set in stone. What is the daily routine of a QA tester like? Is it a constant thing, or do you basically wait for something to crop up in JIRA? Do you play through the game, or test things specifically in some setup?
For me, as primary QA head, I kinda manage a lot and take the tasks as I go. I actually put most of the tickets into Jira. The regular testers will check out new game content/replay old content looking for bugs and stuff, and giving feedback. Its better to precision test stuff rather than just blind testing.

Doing traditional full mod support would require a LOT of rewriting – fortunately we have the amazing folks at TModLoader that made their awesome tool to allow for a robust modding community. So I severely doubt you see that change?

However, I REALLY want to have some sort of "Leinfors Balance corner" where I can document the full detail list of my changes. It likely wouldn't be in the main changelog, so as not to crowd it out. This would be subject to discussion, and it hasn't been approved yet, but I really do want to share this information with you guys.

Why does mana still exist? Can't you use cooldowns instead? Near-endgame melee weapons don't even suffer from mana usage and can still dish out great DPS from a distance. Mage classes are essentially forced to waste an accessory slot on mana recovery.
Because its how the game is designed. Would be weird to change it now.

The thing about Terraria is that the game has so many areas that can be expanded, but there's just not enough time to devote the love to them all that we could. So I think that's where we try to polish it up and leave as many options as possible for modders to experiment with, because ultimately, we have to draw the line somewhere. I think JE will be a good closing note on the game

what was the most annoying bug while developing terraria?
So we had this VERY minor bug where flying mounts that were against the ground, if you flew off a block and then tried to fly back on, you would get stuck. Yorai tried to fix it, and it caused like 3 other bigger bugs. Fixing them ended up causing like 7 more bigger bugs. He finally got them all fixed, and then it broke EVERY SINGLE MOUNT, including causing the bug that launched the Reindeer into space. By the time he was done sorting it all out, it had taken so much time, and I regretted ever filing the bug. It would have been better to just not fix it, IMO.

So, I measure a lot of factors, such as primary damage, group DPS, how easy it is to hit enemies with it, how its impacted by defense. Things like mana consumption per damage dealt are a factor, as well as how hard it is to obtain at its tier.
At the end of the day, perfect balance is impossible, but I aim to make it so that the weapons individual differences are more appealing based on personal preference rather than blatant stat favoritism when possible.
So a weapon that does a lot of single target DPS for a high mana cost, but has crappy group DPS, can get away with that damage if there are cheaper mana cost weapons that deal group DPS but lower damage. Hopefully the variety will offset their differences, and make them both viable for different roles.

How often do you play terraria for fun?
I play a ton during every work week, so I usually don't have the itch to play much. Believe it or not, I usually don't like playing during beta cycles because I'm a completionist and I feel like I have to redo it all every time we add new stuff, so the best time for me to play is after an update! I'm looking forward to a true, full completion 1.4 playthrough!
How hard is programming a game?
I think its really hard, and I'm still pretty bad at it, but learning more and more!

Whether or not we were to add a post-ML boss or event or something, Moon Lord is always "the final boss". Anything else after that is just some sort of optional bonus content.

Would you prefer Nerf or nothing™️?
If I could ONLY nerf things, I still would, but it would make it so much harder to balance stuff. I tend to aim for a 5:1 buff to nerf ratio, if not higher. Nerfs should be done sparingly.

I've told people this before but I'm a sucker for crappy idle games.
As for the update, Terraria 1.4 was originally meant to be a smaller bug fix/polish update that was 1.3.6. It was NOT originally meant to be 1.4. But we realized it was going on and on and we kept adding stuff, so we ended up turning it into 1.4.
