Make a 6 block trench around whatever you want to protect, and sometimes it's good to turn the stuff around your base hallow because it wont make your NPC's be leave like corruption

Go to Terraria on your main homepage and go to game setting for Terraria and click cloud backup

Also turn off auto backup and autosave
