There are tutorials online that can explain better than I can, but basically you put in a chest, and then save and exit. Reopen your world and take it out of the chest. Then save and exit again, but this time let it save map data, but while it is saving world data exit the game and reopen it. Then open the world up and you will have 1 item in your n inventory, and 1 in the chest
