Audio very loud after suspend

My audio (alsa, pipewire, wireplumber, pipewire-pulse, pipewire-alsa) grows very, very (painfully) loud when resuming from suspend.

Is this a known issue? If not, how do I begin to debug this?

I can just turn it down to 10% after every such instance, but I'd prefer fixing the underlying problem.

restarting all pipewire services does nothing

nor does manually attempting to restore the alsa state using alsactl

my sound sources (eg. firefox, discord) are all still connected to the pipewire session and my pavucontrol still shows them
