Brief summary: I’ve owned handhelds from the Nintendo DS/3DS family since childhood (started with a DSi) and currently use a New 3DS XL and i want to make it feel like new and make it last the most i can.

Planned updates and reasons:

-Replace the lower shell, the glossy finish has worn where my hands touch it and some paint has come off.

-Replace the battery, current battery is old and i found a compatible replacement that is new and has higher capacity.

-Buy screen protectors and a transparent protective case to prevent future paint loss and add general protection.

-Replace the joystick cover because it has nail marks, if I’m ordering parts, I want it to look truly like new.

Dilemmas and choices:

Reliable shells for the New 3DS XL are hard to find, eBay seems the best option but results are mixed.

I considered a Monster Hunter–themed replacement shell but it’s expensive and I’m not sure it will fit correctly, so I’ll stick with a plain black shell and buy a charm to hang on the back instead.

Request:

Has anyone bought a New 3DS XL lower shell that fit perfectly without modification? If so, please share the seller.

I will update the post with links to where I end up buying the parts and with photos of the final result.

I'm pretty sure ExtremeRate is coming out with New 3DS and New 3DS XL shells later this year. I'd wait for them to release myself.

Otherwise you could be on the lookout for junked 3DS's with a nice shell and see if you can snag them for a good price. The paint will likely chip again depending on the model, common issue with the New 3DS XL I read.

For the time being, maybe one of those click-on shells, stickers or vinyl wrap might work?

I have the same color and model. Curious how long did it take for the paint to chip?

Paint damage might happen with time eitherway. Not much you can do to prevent it unfortunately. Those soft cases are probably better at keeping it pristine but those yellow quickly.

I'd rather put a nice click on shell on it and hide the damage rather than risk damaging your system for a lower or mid quality reshell (if you can't find an original shell).

Of course, might be fun to reshell aswell, in my opinion.

Im sure il not be able to find an oem, but i realy want to reshell it, i would rather put the clear case im thinking abt and leave the damage as it is than a click on, but il settle for a mid quality reshell it just cant be expensive and i need to be sure it il at least fit and look close enough to the original.
