Yeah I think there's a weak magnet in it

Ive been using the 3ds for decades and I've never seen this

Anyway yeah the 3DS (and most clamshell devices like laptops and stuff too) use a magnet sensor to detect when the lid is closed. So when it detects a magnet where the sensor is the 3DS goes into sleep mode

Perfectly normal behaviour, nothing wrong or broken

The earbuds case probably has magnets that keep the lid shut which are what's causing it to activate
