I have this orginal 3ds from launch day and its been used alot but a couple years ago one day it stop charging and the orange light wont come on. It’s not a battery pack thing because I replaced it with a new one and it was working but once it died it refused to charge and the orange light wont turn on either. Also the charging port is damaged and doesnt have the original pieces.

replace your dock and press that button on the dock its like a lil tab when that tab gets pushes down theres a mechanism that moves the charging connectors on, make sure your battery connector is good

I think it is more likely that the plates detacthed
As in the solder joints they had are disconnected
This scenario happened to me when buying used 3DS' with bad ports
