#Transfering data to a new console with ONLY the sd card and not the original system.

At the start of this repair process i asked if the SD card was required to be sent to the repair centre, I got a reply saying that it did not need to be sent due to it not being related with the problem.

I am due to receive the new console from the repair team tomorrow, i wanted to ask, is there any way at all i can get the data from the old SD card (which is in my possession) to the new console, i have read online that it is not as simple as just “moving the sd card into the new system” as there are certain restrictions, is there any way possible that i can transfer my data from my old sd card into my new console from the repair centre.

Not doable unless you hacked it and have the encryption keys exported

#

All the keys to the data were stored on the motherboard of the old system, system transfer is what moves those keys

#

Nintendo might have done the transfer for you

Oh i see, in the instance that nintendo did the transfer for me would it then just be as simple as me putting my sd card into the new system or is there more to it

That simple

#

The systems needs the encryption key for the data, and the tickets for the data

#

Transfer covers both

#

If the data doesn't register in home menu, they didn't transfer the mother board data and you're stuck unable to decrypt the files currently on your card

#

Saves are the biggest deal there

Okay sounds good i’ll try and find out if they have transferred the data

You can always log your account in and redownload your purchases

#

Worst case there is a call to Nintendo to unlink from the old motherboard

If they didn't transfer, you also have no save data

#

You don't have the info to derive the key

#

Cfw can dump the key, and the finalizing process does it

#

Ntrboot can do it without modifying the console

okay so in theory if i homebrewed my 3ds how would i go about getting the save data back

#

(i’m going to homebrew and i’m basically just asking how i’d get the save files back lol)

frail fossil
#

Ntrboot can boot a firm payload, so godmode, to do an essential backup

#

Homebrew won't get your saves back now, because you don't have the encryption key from the old motherboard

#

You'd have had to have done this before it broke

Okay haha update!

#

turns out by some miracle all my save data is still here

#

all i did was put the SD card into the new system and by some miracle it worked

#

everything is here

frail fossil
#

That's what was implied you already did

#

The data is locked to the console, when you did the transfer you were supposed to move the sd card to follow the keys that you transferred

#

Ah, the repair situation. They did the transfer during repair then

Yeah i’m super confused though

sooooooo idk what’s up with that
