How to stop 3ds from downloading update file and prompt user to accepted the firmware update?
I know that I can just press no, but….
I fear that, one day, I might pressed the yes button by accident.
I’ve done that with ps4 and it’s not pretty.

why not just update?
only downside to updating is that modding becomes a bit tricker on old 3ds/2ds
in that case you can mod first and then safely update later
