Hi, I have recently bought New 3DS XL and while I love the build quality, my hands get cramped very quickly while playing, especially my right hand. Yesterday I started Metroid Zero Mission which mostly uses A, B, L and R buttons. I have played for 1 hour and I had to stop due to cramps. It is next morning and my right thumb (middle of it not the tip) is still sore. It is mostly due to the buttons being so close to the console edge that my fingers need to be “tucked in” and thumb always bend at 90 degrees. I tried holding the console differently but then my left hand gets sore and my fingers scratch at the open cartridge slot.
I do not think I have massive hands or anything like that since I did not have this issue with my GBA/PSP/Vita, but had similar experience while running Delta emulator on my iPhone (I have the Pro Max model).
So my question is: are there other models that would provide better play comfort/ergonomics? I have heard that base 3DS is even worse, but what about 2DS and 2DS XL? Did anyone had similar issues or is it just me?

look into grips/cases. My OH uses a silicon case and it turns it more controller typr making it more ergonomic

theyre all square, except the 2ds wedge, so if you have an issue with the square build and don't have small hands..a different 3ds model isn't going to help any

Is the buttons placement (A, B, X, Y) the same on all of them? i.e. so close to the console edge?
