The power off and update screens work fine, and will work like normal, but no matter what the home menu won't boot and it's just a black screen. I don't know what to do. i've tried looking around for local repair since i have a whole bunch of other issues with it but either they're too far for me or they aren't able to fix it. any help?

# meager badge what’s that

Safe Mode Boot can be accessed when turning on the Nintendo 3DS while holding A+R+L+Up(DPad). This menu is made to update your Nintendo 3DS through internet, if an update previously failed

Do you have an SD card in? Try removing it and booting the home menu

#

This is all i can think about regarding software problems.
Maybe the button is broken, but i think it's unlikely

If u have a new xl you can get it fixed in Nintendo america. If u live in Europe u can get other models fixed by Nintendo too

#

So maybe try reaching out

yeah i know but it's $80 plus shipping and im broke 😭

If u don't have any important data maybe you can try rebooting the system to fabric settings (formating)

i've looked around but i like in a small ass city and i can't drive 💀

#

i'm planning on buying a used new 3ds xl and just transferring the data or smth

pliant patio
#

Yeah better option

#

Btw if you don't find good prices, try buying a japanese one and changing the region and modding it

#

They're cheaper lol

Your save data is gone

#

Sounds like your NAND chip aka the whole console, is corrupted

#

That would be recoverable if you had homebrew but

meager badge
#

i don’t

dusky fox
#

Yeah

#

You could try reseating the motherboard to rule out a component not connected

#

Very easy way to rule that out

i don’t have that kind of knowledge but i think it’s the NAND chip

#

that 3ds has been dropped, gotten water on it, etc.

#

i was not a careful kid

😭😭😭

#

Not surprising, many kids got their 3ds/2ds at you ages. I got mine at 8, but i treated it like holy grail. The only issue I've had a crack on the hinge.
But oh god. I've seen everything. From consoles dirtier than a bucket of trash to batteries placed upside down.

#

I saw a 3ds that was dropped from a bunk, that resulted on the Top screen to be hanging off the console. INSANE, I KNOW.

You don’t need any

Just follow a video/tutorial
