What specific screen mod do you have? I know some ITA installs put the metal shielding of the screen real close to the battery terminals.

Pictures will be helpful for further troubleshooting.

it's been a while but it was a no-cut kit from the retro game repair shop, i taped over the panel and associated board to make sure there would be no shorts
i'm at work right now so i can take some photos when i get home, but the board more or less just looks like a normal GBA board, nothing charred or anything

both sides of the board, as well as the fuse and partially disconnected transformer

(the fuse could be better but it is connected and not shorted to anything, this was my first time soldering this small so i was only really worried about making it work)
