I read that the cause of this artifacting has to do with the Goomba emulator. Is there any kind of workaround or am I screwed until I get a GBC Everdrive?

Goomba issue, I believe there’s some bug fix but, get an EZFLASH jr or something similar instead for GB/C games

which game is it? I too believe there are some bundled bug fixes for the Goomba emulator for specific games.

It's a known issue with goomba. If you want to play GB/GBC games get a GB/GBC flash cart and don't emulate it on a GBA.
