#Anyone familiar with this error message?

Have been trying to fix a faulty Japanese ruby cartridge that was seemingly broken but after messing with a file dumper and save editors have actually made some headway into getting it working. However when running the .gba file in a emulator and on actual hardware this message pops up before booting into the save menu, I can't seem to find a English error screen with a exclamation mark at the end so I am unable to guess or attempt to translate what it means, picture 2 is my friend's best guess at what it's saying.

Anyone have experience with error messages and able to tell me what it says?

Please remember to provide as much information as possible including all troubleshooting steps you have already taken. If this is a hardware issue, please provide clear in-focus images of the issue, PCB (circuit board), installation, and any soldering you have done. Help us help you, posts with insufficient information will be deleted

It says that the save data was not correctly written, the previous save data will be read

#

in this case レポート does translate to "report" but they mean the save data

Thank you, I was 50/50 on what it actually said because it had a exclamation mark at the end and ive never seen a error message on the English copies with one of those before. I was worried after all this hassle I had a broken battery installed and would have to do all this all over again.

if you don't care about the save file here's what you do. start a new game, save it **twice in a row **and then power off/on. it should behave normally after that

Originally all the saves and the actual Rom itself I pulled of the cart with my GB Operator would not work in any emulator or save editor until launching it with Bizhawk. Forcing a 129kb SAVERAM file (which is too big) onto the cartridge and then putting a 128kb save back onto the cart has seemingly fixed the issue.

if you want to keep the save and have a backup, then try loading the file after that error message. Then save 2 times and see if the message is gone when you next power cycle it

#

why 2 times is the game keeps 2 copies of the savegame. saving twice overwrites both of them

Ah okay that explain a lot, then I guess the save I was always trying to make was saving into slot 2 and the corrupted slot 1 file was causing hassle?

using a save editor? yes something like that might have been happening

Doing a double save in VBA and a soft reset has got rid of the popup message so I'm gonna stick it back on the cart and hopefully we have fixed it.

perfect!

Emulating it straight from the cart seems to have worked
