#EZ Flash JR Not Launching Certain Roms

yes. a dirty power switch can cause a LOT of problems. you need to desolder the top shield and clean it out properly
btw, the author of bgb is a friend of mine, and that website has an out of date version (and also wrong information; the author name quoted is wrong). You want to grab the newest version here: https://bgb.bircd.org/
BGB is a GameBoy and Gameboy Color emulator and debugger for Windows and Wine
that's odd, I understand. but we can't troubleshoot anything on a console with a dirty power switch due to the multitude of problems it can cause
As CubeVato says, the ezflash jr draws more power than stock cartridges due to the FPGA inside it
check out the #998610706133954830 - there is info in the wiki about cleaning the power switch including links to video guides
Please don't just drip IPA into the switch. Doesn't work; only gives the illusion of cleaning it at best.
BTW as for Ezflash JR's battery, I gave some info in #gameboy but to add to that: the battery often comes empty in the cartridge because it only has a lifespan of 1-2 years. CR1220 if you want to replace it to get RTC working and make saves a little easier to handle.
resolder?
you need to desolder the lid, remove the slider and clean the contacts/slider. Very delicate process
yes, please do
did you launch the game right after playing another? What I mean is, I've found a bug in mine sometimes if I do this:
- Power on, choose game A, let it load
- Press the reset button and choose game B, let it load
Try powering off, then on, then choosing SMB Deluxe as the first game after power on and let me know if it works.
I don't know. maybe a rom problem
Seems likely
The power thing is more common than you’d think. It’s come up here a few times, though it’s usually big rom hacks that cause issues for people.
There are sites online with databases of hashes for basically the entire ROM catalog. You can use it to check your ROMs by running your copy through sha1 or md5sum and comparing the output to the known good values

See this ^ discussion. Just search in this Discord for the word "checksum" and you'll find links to various tools that folks have used
What you're looking for is typically called something like MD5, SHA-1, CRC-32, etc. (various different types of hashing, message digest, or consistency-checking algorithms). If you look in that no-intro database linked to from that discussion, you'll find several of those listed for each game. Each one of them is some string of characters (e.g. a number in hexadecimal or the like) generated by running the game data through a program that implements one of those algorithms.
The idea is you run your file through a program that does the same thing and then compare the string of characters it gives you to the one you find in the database. If they match, then your file is probably good. If they don't match, then your file has been modified in some way
Yeah, sounds like your ROM is probably fine. You could try finding a replacement but it probably won’t help.
I don’t remember the battery being important for basic functionality, just for RTC and maybe save stuff.
FWIW my experience with EZ Flash has been pretty hit-or-miss. The Omega Definitive Edition is good, but it seems like their QA is lacking because both the EZF Jr. and original (non-DE) Omega I bought from them had issues out of the box.
I ended up having to return my Jr. to the vendor and order a replacement, and that one worked fine, but anecdotally, it seems to be less reliable than the (more expensive) Everdrive GB x7
If returning it is an option for you, you might try that and seeing if you can find a replacement. If you have access to another Game Boy, it might also be worth trying it on that before you do to rule out any potential issues with your system (though it looks fine)
If you’re unable to return it, there are some more extreme measures you can try to fix the cart (once you’ve determined it’s a hardware issue)
Mainly reflowing the chips, if you’re confident in your microsoldering
Makho has a video where he repaired a bad EZF Omega that way
Not to remove them so much as to reconnect them
Oh, it was an EZF Jr. even, not an Omega. Even better: https://youtu.be/h2OWMBw2UzY
If you have an EZ-FLASH Jr that gets stuck booting, the solution I employed in this video may also work for you. Before even disassembling your cart though, you should verify with the seller the status of any warranty especially since this issue seems to manifest immediately and not after a few months or so. Official resellers will offer a warra...
