We kind of need to see the LCD part as thats where the buttons go :)

@silver lance have you visually checked the inside of the main board's ribbon connector - for any corrosion? (from around pin 4 to pin 9.

Might be worth checking the diodes DA1-4 just with continuity to rule it out (though super unlikely to be those)

I had a GB recently where down and left stopped working, I thought it was the CPU hosed, but it turned out just a tiny bit of corrosion deep inside the ribbon connector. I put new connector on and it was good as gold (or 30 year old gold at least).
