A friend gave me this SP since he stopped playing it and I was greeted with a washed screen after getting it to charge. I tried adjusting the contrast pot and swapping my 001 screen. It too is washed on the 101 main board. Is there something else I could check or is the main board doomed?

001 screens dont work correctly in 101 systems. either find a replacement 101 screen (rare for a good working one now) or the IPS-101 screens that drop into 101s.

mike i think the problem isnt the screen. theyre saying the color is washed out with two different screens. that sounds like a motherboard issue. idk what to tell you other than clean the board with alcohol, maybe some other people here are more familiar with video issues

Compare to another system. Some people complain about screen issues but then it’s just an old screen

Seems like there’s a good amount of info missing here. @burnt lagoon If you don’t mind, answering the below and providing pictures of the mobo, display, etc. will help

  1. Is the unit you’re trying to fix a 001 or a 101?
  2. If it is a 101, was there any damage to the unit that you know of (water damage can be checked by the moisture indicator)

Mike is correct in that 101 displays will not work properly with 001 boards and vice versa. If the mobo is a 101, you’ll need either another 101 display or an IPS kit to confirm if the issue lies with the mobo or the display itself

@sullen turtle The unit appears undamaged.

I got the idea to install the 001 in the 101 because others have said it does work, front light and everything. I do know a 101 screen can't go in a 001 main board without mods. However, I just wanted to see if a known good screen would show the same symptom and mine did. I just don't have another 101 main board to check the 101 screen.

I connected my FunnyPlaying V2 screen to the 101 and it actually displays correctly. I do wonder if that screen works because of the "translator" board or maybe there's an issue with the screen connector on the main board. (Maybe the OEM screen doesn't get good connection but the IPS screen has a solid connection)

Can you send a pic of the ribbon connector on the 101 display?
