Normally Dallas has been bigger footprint wise, but since Atlanta has the different big tournaments this year it may be different.

The only thing GA doesn’t guarantee you seating for is the IEM finals cause that gets filled very quick

In the past few years the map has become so strange. The Creator hub area has been a huge waste of space in my opinion. People on the stage with no audience, and people just on their phones on the bean bags. So much empty space that could be allocated to something else. And agree the sponsor booths are strange with limited activities. Definitely better than Walmarts huuuge lot with nothing last year.

The arcade is the saddest transformation. Sad to see it so small this year.

So many of the usual vendors/artists who I’ve seen here for years say they couldn’t get a spot or were priced out of it.

Boston and Philly have pretty chill areas right next to their convention centers. I would love if they tried to relocate to one of these. I will say I didn’t have a bad experience in Atlanta, actually liked it. But Dallas the past couple years had sooo many homeless people near the convention

That’s another huge perk about Atlanta. As far as larger cities, it’s more affordable than most of them. Plus you have the option of staying further from downtown and taking the train. So it’s more accessible for folks that don’t want to be downtown. They are also opening a food hall where the arena is and then opening a new entertainment space across the street. That whole area will be vastly different in the next few months.

I think we're sort of down playing the crime with ATL. I live 3hrs away, I see it as a huge improvement from Asheville, city streets and infrastructure wise. But crime is a huge pain point in general.
On X creators who attended had airbnbs and they heard drive by's, shoot outs at night nearby. They were 7 minutes away from the venue. They were terrified to do B Roll and Cinematic footage of the area while covering Dreamhack

So your only option is to Uber/Lyft to the venue, even though you're 7 minutes away. However, they upcharge for XL vehicles if you have more than 2 people

Do that, 2 times, for 3 days.

I could go to any city and stay at an Airbnb in a sketchy place and have the same experience. Uber/Lyft prices for an XL vehicle would be the same everywhere. here’s why everyone hated ATL:

1. Ghetto as fuck
2. Nothing decent open after 9pm (convention ended at 9-10, so there’s a dilemma)
3. Not everyone can afford 100s for Ubers to nicer areas and nicer dining spots
4. No set plans/ brand events/ etc. for people to attend.
5. The streets weren’t safe to walk, especially girl-only groups.

I’m from LA and if the convention was in DTLA people wouldn’t feel like they’re risking their lives walking anywhere. Hope this lil recap helps.

I lived in downtown LA from 2019- late 2020ish? It is not "nice", I prefer downtown San Diego or Orange County or Las Vegas as convention areas over LA. I do like Atlanta for 3 reasons if there is going to be 1 Dreamhack USA per year for near future: its easy for International guests to travel in to the airport, the population of the USA is majority east coast with Florida and Texas and Nashville growing like crazy its within easy reach of each, and its affordable to a greater range of people compared to somewhere like Boston or NYC. I stay in a hotel near the convention center ATL and walk and havent had issues. I do understand the challenges of renting a random cheap AIRBNB anywhere in ATL and seeing some ghetto crime there, which is why I dont do that

Maybe Atlanta is being talked about more because this is the only US event? Dallas was in May and was viewed as the larger of the two at the time.

The past few times I worked both, Atlanta certainly felt smaller than Dallas.

Dallas for sure is bigger. Last year Dallas had 60K attendance and this year Atlanta had 53K. Granted Atlanta got a huge boost due to it be the only one. Atlanta normally is around 40K.

I've stayed in Atlanta for multiple DragonCons and DreamHacks, gone to school in Atlanta, and work right down the street from GWCC, and I've rarely felt unsafe. Heck, drive 45 minutes down to Griffin and it feels alot less safe than Atlanta 🤣 but yeah there's a ton of stuff shut down right now in anticipation of World Cup, so next year there will be a ton of new restaurant and entertainment options available. The timing was just bad this year since half the city is under renovation.

Generally speaking, 1 ticket is all access entry. I dont believe there is many, if any, fees to pay for tournaments. I think some FGC tournaments cost $1 to enter but thats it

Unless something has changed, ATL still allows sleeping at the venue, like if you fall asleep at your gaming PC or otherwise, as long as you aren't blocking walkways or encroaching on others space, no-one is going to yell at you.

I understand the concern, and would definitely recommend taking your peripherals with you. As far as someone messing with your system, only BYOC people are allowed in and having a good rapport with people around you should prevent any mischief.

We usually have a few things in place for security like giving you nfc tags to tag your equipment with. you put them on and they are linked to your badge. if someone tries to leave with your system it will alert the security that its not their equipment.
another option is to pick up a kensington cable lock and attach it to your monitor and PC, most all computers/monitors have a dedicated location to put said lock. you can then wrap the cable around the table leg you are sitting at or something similar.

the 100% secure way is to take your stuff with you when you leave if its a major concern. most people leave their systems and there will be a ton of them there including my network equipment.
