#How can I create a fog of war effect in a top-down 3D game?

Hallo.

So, I wanted to recreate the fog of war effect similar to what can be seen in League of Legends; You can see the whole layout of the map, but areas that your character are not able are "darkened/shaded."

I reckon it has something to do with shaders, but I don't know how to make my own.

Look up occlusion culling... It's more of an optimization thing, usually, but it's effectively the same principle as what you are showing you want here, as far as I can tell. I can't begin to tell you how to set it up, myself, though.
