Italiano: nome, cognome
Which region are you from slz?

May I complain ab my study?
yes please
Fuck. Today our classes statred earlier and I foolishly thought that I would be free earlier...
Our teacher decided to extend classes on hour... "We don't have enough time!!! Why can't you do this exercise correctly?!!"
And I have my IT and literature classes homework.
any one of you programming legends now anything about qualtrics?
ahora no xd
Antes si?
this isn't to do with spanish, but more like a identity thing
I am a latino, but I didn't learn to speak spanish/wasn't immersed in the culture when I was growing up (Im 17)
What can I do, aside from learning spanish which is why I'm here, to be more in contact with the culture
because I want to call myself a latino, because I am, but it always feels like im lying
Yeah, that's a common problem amongst Latinos in the us.

@crystal yew
IMHO your national identity has nothing to do with language you speak. If you feal Latino then you are Latino.
Like here in Belarus people mostly speak Russian. I have met really a lot of people who identify themselves as Belarusians, but dunno Belarusian.

My linear algebra teacher decided today's test was going to be in groups
but I decided to do it alone
and we have to upload the answers to the questions tomorrow morning
I finished it a couple of hours ago
I'm just scared to turn it in this early
since I have lots of free time to check that everything is correct
I have two projects next week, so I gotta finish one of them this week, and since the other can be uploaded until next friday, then it's not that big of a deal
Where can I find the Spanish grammar or something like that pdf file? The one that comes up wih a command.

Hola mom
I have a brain teaser for yâall. (Some of you probably already know it)
Suppose you're on a game show, and you're given the choice of three doors: Behind one door is a car; behind the others, goats. You pick a door, say No. 1, and the host, who knows what's behind the doors, opens another door, say No. 3, which has a goat. He then says to you, "Do you want to pick door No. 2?" Is it to your advantage to switch your choice?
đ
According to the movie 21, i got 33,33% with my choice hahaha

@twilit hamlet it's just a name xd but basically the bitrate is higher than in "regular" channels, so the quality should be better
they didn't detect evidence of anything like that
they detected a hint of possible evidence of a particle which could possibly lead to the confirmation of one part of a completely separate theory which has a part of it that suggests the existence of a parallel universe with a backwards direction of time before the big bang
https://arxiv.org/abs/1803.11554 hereâs the nasa paper
We explain the two upgoing ultra-high energy shower events observed by ANITA
as arising from the decay in the Earth's interior of the quasi-stable dark

https://arxiv.org/abs/1803.08928 here's the paper that suggests a possibility for the alternate universe thing
We propose that the state of the universe does {\it not} spontaneously
violate CPT. Instead, the universe after the big bang is the CPT image of the
universe before it, both classically and...
basically nasa detected something strange which maybe could be attributed to a 480 PeV neutrino and that's something the CPT symmetric universe theory posits
Aren't actual science reports really hard to read and very boring? I came across a medical study once, it didn't read like an article at all. Are all science reports like the medical reports I saw; pages and pages of jargon?
The audience for all these papers are other professionals in the field
Adding a bunch of fluff to make it sound fun is a waste of space
And adding a bunch of text explaining the concepts so itâs not ONLY piles of jargon actually also are wastes of space because the only people who read them are other professionals
Itâs the job of scientific journalists to read those papers and interpret them and then rewrite them for normal people to be able to read
But sometimes this industry is imperfect, like this time
They saw the story of a reverse time flow alternate universe or whatever and that sounds super cool so they all hopped on it and wrote it
ââââââââ
Aren't actual science reports really hard to read and very boring?
The other way to answer this question would be âI linked two actual science reports above, you can try reading them and decide for yourselfâ
We explain the two upgoing ultra-high energy shower events observed by ANITA as arising from the decay in the Earth's interior of the quasi-stable dark matter candidate in the CPT symmetric universe. The dark matter particle is a 480 PeV right-handed neutrino that decays into a Higgs boson and a light Majorana neutrino. The latter interacts in the Earth's crust to produce a tau lepton that in turn initiates an atmospheric upgoing shower. The fact that both events emerge at the same angle from the Antarctic ice-cap suggests an atypical dark matter density distribution in the Earth.
Translated:
In our ANITA experiment, we saw two times a bunch of particles suddenly coming upwards from inside of the Earth when normally we only detect particles coming downwards from outer space. We think these might have come from certain âdark matterâ particles which are predicted in a theory called the âCPT symmetric universeâ. That particle started out as a 480 PeV neutrino (which is very big for a particle), then split into what are called a âHiggs bosonâ and a âlight Majorana neutrinoâ. Finally, the light Majorana neutrino interacted eight the Earthâs crust and changed to a Tau lepton, which in turner split into many many particles and created a shower of particles coming out of the crust. Because these two events came from a similar direction, we think there might possibly be some kind of clump of dark matter in the Earth somewhere for some reason.
It got longer and thereâs less info
So if your audience is professionals in the field, the top one is good
If your audience is some random person, the bottom one might be good
I was referencing the original nypost article, it doesn't read like a science report to me. The two you sent read more like the science reports I came across before đ @rough lava
The nypost article is not a science report, thatâs scientific journalism where they read the original science report and rewrite it for us losers who canât understand the original report haha
uf well as long as I'm a loser while I'm here, I guess I can be ok with being a loser
If we factor in the time element to videos, does that make all videos 3D?
Hi
Hello!
sĂ los artĂculos cĂentificos son secos
hola
buenas
buenas
@abstract scaffold Why is diagonalization important?
I mean diagonalization in linear algebra
A^k = PD^kP^-1
I only went like... I'm just gonna remember this formula... pls let me pass this course with 60% weighted final exam. yeah. linear algebra ain't my strongest of points.
differential equations... i dig those tho. (maybe not the harder ones that may need numerical methods)
i'm trying to re-learn networks (graph theory), trees.... that stuff.
Does anybody know about pc specs?
no mucho pero estoy interesando

oh, leĂ mal tu pregunta
uhhh no creo que mi ryzen tenga grĂĄfica dedicada
@glass dragon Did it work?
@calm flax Do you feel equally fluent in Spanish and English?
well English is my native language, so no
I do have moments where I struggle to find words in Spanish
But I would consider myself fluent
Why? @placid flicker
I was wondering if full immersion could truly bring someone to native level
@twilit hamlet I think so!
yeah native level is something unattainable for me given that I'm not a native.
Fluency I'll settle for of course
full immersion is the way to go IMHO
es posible sĂ
Probablamente no muy prĂĄctica.
I could say I immersed in French for many months, and that's why after a year without studying it at all I remember everything. All I did was to talk very frequently on a server where no one spoke Spanish
and when they wanted to explain me what something meant I had to understand it in French
it's hard at first
but it helps
I dislike having to look everything up before speaking bcs it feels as if I didn't study ptoperly.
But I suppose with time you get better.
you can def immerse yourself online. It won't do you much favors in actual pronunciation, but it helps with literally everything else
of course, you need to first familiarize yourself to the online world in that particular language. English speaking circles are very multicultural, but still different from, say, spanish speaking circles
You can immerse yourself somewhat but certain things donât work. For instance I canât read my local news or talk with my friends in Spanish. So I donât know if Iâd consider it âimmersionâ if most of your day to day interactions are still in your native language
I never considered how different spanish speaking internet might be.
True, the immersion is artificial.
I suppose it all depends on how much or how long you choose to immerse yourself.
Communicating 2 hours per day vs 8 etc.
I have been doing every single day âa immersionâ to practice my english, i was practicing 2 hours per day, but i still have to practice more vocabulary, i can remember some word, some phrases structure and then i also canât understand sometimes when people speaks faster.
XD
There is a bit of a joke among Americans that spanish is a fast language.
But the reverse is probably true for an non English speaker.
Thatâs exactly what happens haha
We usually donât speak faster, For instance we sometimes speak faster when you took a conversation but you were leaving, other regions have people who speaks faster that at least you can understand!
Same here.
City folks tend to speak very fast whereas folks from the countryside speak much slower.

I just found out I've been pronouncing the "ll" in spanish wrong for a year
me siento tonto
At first I thought you meant in some dialects it was an âaâ sound lol
Hahaha, i thought same as you
Wait they made you pay for the AP exam?
My school district paid for mine
Damn you guys have it ROUGH
@sharp berry an AP exam is an exam that can be taken for college credit (which you get ordinarily by taking classes), but you can take these tests in high school so you dont have to take so many classes in university
That
Oh
They're handed out by the wonderful College Board which is a "nonprofit" organization who makes millions off of the stress of students across the U.S
Oof, that's sound... awful?
That sounds*
oh, right
I love them so much. So much so that I affirmed that my grandfather picks up quartz and valuable onyx jewels. (They made us type this out)
I think I got an exact 75% on my SAT
Is the SAT even graded with percentages?
Ah
Holy shit lol. our school doesn't subsidize our tests at all. in fact, we pay more than what the actual exam costs
$110 each
But I also took it before they changed how many points it's out of
the school also makes profit off of our stress
Back when it was 2400
$110 ?!?!
yeah lol
For what AP of SAT
ap tests
i was gonna say
I don't remember
The SAT still helps to get some scholarships, right?
the PSAT does
It's been like 6 years
if you score like the top 99% percentile or something
I heard that the SAT is free for first time
Which I never will
nope
I mean, do you pay 110$ for take the exam and earn credits?
Yes, they do
You only get credits if you score high enough
to take the exam. you only earn credit if you get the score required by your uni
which is usually 3-4
out of 5
uf
Yeah, the test is like $100 but it can save you like $4000 in college tuition lol
If you do well enough
lol
Whaaaaaaat, the education sounds so expensive in USA
everything is
and only if you read what ap tests your uni accepts and what stuff you test out of
yeah, everything is lol
It's mostly to avoid having to take Gen Ed classes
Since a lot of them are really similar to high school level material
Well, the Argentinian money doesn't value but it's sound like a lot
oh you don't want to see these prices in pesos argentinos
I thought that if you got highest score in SAT, you will have some chance to get scholarships
I think that it depends on the state
You guys write so fast and I am thinking a sentece like 20 minutes
Is ACT free at first time?
(not related sorry)

thinking is overrated
I wanted to apply to scholarships from my College and then i need 5000$ to take a semester like exchange
While i pay 30$ here

SAT and ACT requirements are being dropped for a bunch of schools in CA bc of COVID
to give you an idea of how expensive education here is, @sharp berry. my estimated cost of attendance next year when i go to uni will be $37260, the equivalent of 2534929.20 pesos argentinos
Yeah, it happens to in Florida
OMG
A lot of people didnât take ACT or SAT
O M G
College has gone up a fair amount since I went lol
That's a very expensive private tuition there
in-state public university is much cheaper
but keep in mind that the differences in income. the median salary around here is higher than the median salary over there. so the gap is not as big as it seems. but it's still huge
It always needs a credit to take classes at least you got the money, right?
lol. im going to an in-state public uni
thatâs what happens here
oh 37k/year
Lol, thatâs so expensive
I thought you wrote 37k/semester
Ohh
Per year
here, yeah
I payed like $25k a year? Ish
yeah, the really expensive private schools are closer to 37-40k per semester right now
Jesus, is that for you degree?
jesus lol
my dad is still paying his student loans and he's like 63 now
Once I have some more money I'm doing it all in one go
ouch
yeah that's great too
Since I had a minimum wage job outside school and work study in
Some colleges give scholarships if you are spanish native or you are smaller than 5 ft
Hahaha
wait what lol
But thatâs like â100 bucksâ
Or something like that
Is that so hard when you got a credit bank while youâre working?
Jesus, is that real?
my dad is still paying his student loans and he's like 63 now
@grim lava
well, luckily, it's not a huge amount of money, so it's not too bad
but it could very well be for other ppl
such as those living by the paycheck
I heard that a lot of people will get money from government in this quarantine but it has a lot of troubles
in your country?
Same as here, thatâs crazy how yâall need to get such a good credit score if you want to get a âdecent lifeâ
Nono, in US
I donât know if thatâs real but i heard that like you need to get positive credit score to buy whatever you want
well it depends on the method you use. your credit score can affect the interest rates you get with banks and credit cards. good credit scores overall give you better things
but if you use actual cash, your credit score isn't going to affect you
For sure, if you always use actual cash that it would be better but if you want to buy a house, you can get this when you get good credit score
Thatâs same as here
yeah, your credit score can affect stuff like the rates you get on the mortgage for a new house and such
Itâs called âDatacreditoâ
Oh yeah, i took some financial classes, that helped me a lot to understand why the banks got money
It depends on taxes too, right?
as a kid, it seemed almost magical to me ajajaja
In this chat I am learning a lot, about English and Economy lol

idk, just as a kid i was dumb
like literally the exact same money
Are students loans related to the amount of debt the United States has?
umm not quite
so, student loans are loans taken out for students to pay their education-related expenses. tuition and such.
Student loans are like mortgage? Like if you can't afford the university/house the bank or the government lends you the money, but you have to return it with interests maybe(?
entonces piden préstamos. se llaman "bonds"
student loans come from banks, the federal govt, private institutions, etc
you only need them if you can't afford to outright pay for uni
which the vast majority of americans can't
Do you think so, taxation is necessary?
So basically the majority depends on the students loans to pay their university
Yes, but you think is necessary? I mean, I heard people saying that taxation is theft
Ok, all clear
sĂ. odio pagar los impuestos

trying to reverse engineer something else someone else did online
so now not only do i need to learn qualtrics but javascript/html at the same time

its basically the software for making surveys, has all of that fancy functionality that big companies need
Why do.you have to use java script if your studying economics or something like that? Did your teacher randomly ask you to use it without knowing if you'd ever used it before..? Or you learned the basics in your degree? Like a class.
long story short i wanted to run an experiment irl but obv corona happened and now i need to modify it to be able to do it online
so im trying to make some basic survey/experiment hybrid that does what i wanted to do irl but oline
Ah ok.

@abstract scaffold how do I even compute the derivative for this function lol
yes
What in God's name is Sen()?
I wonder why they write it as a fraction of fractions? To hint at how youâre supposed to solve it maybe?
Oh I didn't even consider that lol xd
I thought it was just some super advanced trig function that I'd never seen lol
Hahaha

I just read this when looking for what data science related jobs require you to know
it seems that I'm never going to get a job in this field đ
I'm pretty sure you easily will, especially given that you sound passionate about it.
that sounds like a very specific profile though
remember HR wrote that (you can apply anyway, always)
you should talk to other people in that field, it might give you some insight... it could be fun as well

*any advice on creating emojis
*how do I make it less jagged
*I cut it out from the blob ping emoji
el problema es que necesito el nativo
the ideal way is to use vector graphics for this
but if you want to do it all with bitmaps, it would work if you trace the shapes you need (without cutting) and then fill them with the proper colors
how do I make it less jagged
but as a direct answer, that happened because the tool you're using didn't have any kind of smoothing. It's cutting the pixels perfectly
Yo soy spikestrife! encantado de conocerle đ
hola xd
You learning excel @rain ermine ?
These are for excel
Yeah. Some will even work in file explorer
so is it 100% useless
The formula ones etc will only work in excel though
I see
Honestly learning excel is probably one of the most career enhancing things you can do
I have no use for it
What do you want to do?
As a job
đł
What are you studying for?
I mean what subjects will you study next year
uhh
You have plenty of time to choose a major
the normal ones?
Any sciences?
You probably gonna have to do experiments at some point and make a graph out of some data
Whichever science you choose
Graphing
Then youâll probably end up using excel at some point but hey. Itâs early days yet
Yes
has the mainClass property ever worked in the application plugin for Gradle?
I only remember using mainClassName
but I don't touch build settings that much
@rain ermine I have a chemistry-related major. You will need Excel, but itâs easy
And when serenity says âGraphing on Excelâ, they mean you put data points in, highlight them and hit the âGraphâ button, and thatâs it
Excel does the actual graphing for you
In Chemistry you need to use Excel for trend lines, thatâs the first thing that comes to mind for me
yep, trend line. equation of trend line.
I could also see using it as an organization tool for compiling data on different water quality indicators in one body or something like that
I actually havenât taken any course-specific courses yet (Iâve been taking the basic general requirements), so this is all based on prerequisite knowledge XD

Well, it's not that different.
I also thought that they were the same
Tagalog and Filipino
Tagalog is a dialect
ok
Filipino is the national language (together with English)
But...
so you can understand both??
Did Filipino evolve naturally or it was "arranged"?
yes, if you already know how to speak Tagalog or Filipino (either of the two), you can understand both
because
We don't use pure tagalog
filipinos like to tag switch.
We talk like this:
Pakikuha nga yung notebook (Can you get me the notebook)
Pakikuha nga yung silya/upuan (can you get me the chair)
Alam mo ba girl, he doesn't love me anymore (Did you know girl, .....)
Para saan yang lapis? (What is that pencil for?)
Uhmm, it was evolving naturally
@edgy quarry
I see...
Actually, Tagalog (or Filipino) originally have Ă
And there still is.
but it was rarely used
España became Espanya
Español became Espanyol
Piña became Pinya
Señor became Senyor
and so on
Espanyol
It was heavily influenced by English (nowadays and when used in formal setting)
Kwaderno became notebook
lapis became pencil
Telepono became Tellephone/phone
Gabinete became Kabinet (Cabinet with K)
I see.
also we have our own informal language called "Taglish" (Tagalog/Filipino + English) means a mix of Filipino and English lol
Lel

some of our cities/places are also in spanish like
España, Manila
Nueva Ecija
Occidental Mindoro
Oriental Mindoro
Davao del Norte
Davao Del Sur
etc
I just knew that they are Spanish lol
brb
Til
ahh yeah
Syempre means "of course" in Filipino. What does it mean in Spanish?
"Siempre"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORGtD54DLkg - pls can sb translate this?
"Siempre"
@coral lagoon Always.
It's a bit more than that, though, but that's its most used meaning.
ahh I see
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORGtD54DLkg - pls can sb translate this?
Oh, sorry.
"Pues no hay pedo (I think he says that, but I can't understand its meaning). Oye, loco, ¿qué es lo que se ve ahà atrås del palo, wey? ¥Eso, wey, AAAAAA! ¥[Sonidos ininteligibles], CORRE! [Sonidos ininteligibles] ¥Ey, ey, otra vez no, AAAAAA!"
MĂĄs o menos.
@edgy quarry ty very much â€ïž
You're welcome.
@edgy quarry ty very, very much
xD
Despacito is a Spanish song, right?
Right
Spanish songs are good but hard to understand
xD
If you donât understand Spanish đ
But Despacito is quite easy, I think. (?)
They speak too fast
Hm well. I don't consider that song good. However, I can recommend you great Spanish songs ^^
Spanish is very phonetical, though.
I'll try to continue watching "La Casa de Papel" after learning Spanish lol
Haha
idk why the English version is called "Money Heist"
La casa de papel means The Paper House, right?
or the house of paper
Yeah.
Maybe they thought it would get people confused with house of cards
ÂżAlguien sabe como se llaman estas operaciones?
nvm I found it as "combinaciones" hehe
I just prepared myself for coffee
my new favorite sentence*
those are choose the n choose r operations and they are part of the field of combinatorics*
What the scholastic difference
The sentences today are on fire, i love them*
in my circuits analysis class we are covering transistors, and there's this equation Ie=Ib+Ic, and my teacher told us to consider Ie=Ic because Ib is very small
pi=3 moment
Iâm taking circuit analysis next semester - how is it
it's fine, I don't like it that much because I don't have a good foundation of physics, so I don't know why important laws like Kirchoff Voltage Law works for example
and the fact that the way current is mathematically described moves the other way around compared to electrons
like if current moves to the right, then electrons are actually moving to the left
yes
Yeah thatâs annoying lol
ye
because when my teacher explains how diodes work, then he explains it using chemistry and such
but when he analyses circuits then the current is moving the other way around
Chemistry oh nooo - and ah gotcha, that was hard for me in physics, my teacher would always say the current is going the opposite way. But canât you do it either way and you should get the same thing, but the opposite sign? Or something
yes
if you get a negative sign, then it just means you measured the current like in the opposite direction
still trying to surpass these permissions ffs
Ah yeah Right.... i just remember trying to study like 10 minutes before the test watching these videos haha: https://youtu.be/_9MOdrp15sg though he only uses resisters, and capacitors in his examples
Have fun learning about Kirchoff's Laws in this complete tutorial. In this example I explain the Kirchoff's loop rule. The loop rule is one of Kirchoff's laws. It states the potential voltage is equal to zero.
If you need any extra help I do offer homework solutions. Check ou...
It was the section I didnât pay enough attention to
I canât really remember why kirchoffs rules work either now that I think about it, it wasnât really proven or explained to me that well
yea my teacher just told us how to use it and that's it
I wonder if it's related to the fact that the sum of all external forces on a body? is equal to zero
I was thinking conservation of energy
This is what this website says: âThis idea by Kirchhoff is commonly known as the Conservation of Energy, as moving around a closed loop, or circuit, you will end up back to where you started in the circuit and therefore back to the same initial potential with no loss of voltage around the loop. Hence any voltage drops around the loop must be equal to any voltage sources met along the way.â
Ooh this website is good I think- click on voltage laws: https://isaacphysics.org/concepts/cp_kirchhoffs_laws
Idk itâs confusing
that's what i was going to say, it's just the conservation of energy, you assume it's a closed system and then boom* i miss physics please teach me
@median trail
Oh nice, geometry, give me a few minutes since I'm finishing an essay due today
Ok thx, just ping me when available
will do
would you people mind downloading a game on steam to like my steam guide? It's for a competition. It's a 1GB game!
I can read it thx
I didn't realize we take all the cisco courses for networking in my uni :0
one of the best universities in medellin doesn't offer the same amount of cisco courses as my uni
wow
^searched it up.
ĂĄngulo AGO = OGB = pi/2 radianes (OG es perpendicular a AB) Right angle
Side
por lo tanto, triĂĄngulos AOG y GOB son congruentes. {RHS}
x = a*cot(pi/3)
Sea 12x igual a P (perĂmetro)
A = Pa/2
@abstract scaffold
ÂżHas intentado usar pizzaras online para dibujar matemĂĄticas?
nope. nunca
@abstract scaffold oh shoot, it's 60 degrees right?
yes.
el triĂĄngulo entero es equilĂĄtero
pero la mitad ni siquiera es isĂłsceles
yea it makes sense because the apothem split one of the angles in half
so it would be a 30 60 90 triangle
yea it makes sense, I should have checked my results
And I learned something new, I didn't know the formule for the area of a sector uses only radians
=tex \frac{\theta}{360} \times \pi {r}^2
pues, existe esto para los grados.
=tex \frac{\theta}{360} \times \pi {r}^2
I see
we are covering eigenvectors in my LA class, and so far it's easier than I thought
don't know about proving stuff using them
se me olvidĂł todo
i do recall it not being too difficult. but i couldn't wrap my head around its applications. (like any other thing i study as a pure matemĂĄtico)
yes yes, that formula.
by the way, are you going to gradschool? if I may ask
postgrad?
yes
probably gonna do a masters of secondary teaching.
cool
Good points proved in this video.
Thank you for watching
Stay smart!!!
that applies to physics since general relativity
?
