ultimately it's a hard problem to diagnose since by the time you can get a resource monitor open to see what's going on, half the problem has probably passed
but generally it's doing SOME kind of work right on boot, and that's going to be background program or services starting up and doing things you might not want or need them to do

the impactful thing is does is constantly maintain a handy index of everything on your disks which can give you really fast searches and is great for people doing like work
but can also be a startup performance hit and lead to hitching and interference with gaming
if you disable the indexing/extra features, you can still search, it'll just be slower since it has to search manually

I don't think anyone maintains a database of full machine benchmark reports since it would be hard to have enough users reporting their machines
like my cpu and gpu are goth 92nd percentile so at this point about 10% of possible models perform better than them by some amount
