Casi todos los demas, ucraniano, bulgaro etc
Ah
Ya veo
Sip
@stiff maple Ah bueno vale
Jajajaja
Frances, Aleman, Romanche, Rumano
Italiano?

is Felipe VI liked?
@old charm Depends on who
I'd say like 40% like him, 40% don't give a shit 10% hate him
Nah
in the sense that they dont really do anything
xd
oof
Ah well in that sense it is
It is cheaper than the british one
Like it costs 10% of the what the british costs
oh nice
I would say that mostly of the young people in Spain doesn't like Felipe but the old people likes him
is that because of things he has done
He has sold weapons to terrorists and shit
um so this random spanish lady and her bf kept calling me a mari- and I just pretended I didn't know what they were saying.... until the end I was like (in Spanish) "Have a good day! Be sure to check out Nitro!" and they had the oh frick he understood everything I was saying in spanish face before laughing and walking away

ok
Lo intenté y no lo encuentro
"take something out on: relieve frustration or anger by attacking or mistreating (a person or thing not responsible for such feelings)."
Otro: take it out on a person relieve one's anger or frustration by attacking or treating a person harshly. Casi lo mismo.
Por eso es mejor el de PC jaja. De nada.

MY PROGRAM NOW DETECTS ALL CIRCLES IN AN IMAGE
How about this one?
Aww
I'm taking a very primitive approach
I see
But it's rather smart given what tools I have been allowed to use
Which is
The standard library for C#
lol
Can't you make it make them black
alright now make a bunch of randomly colored dots in random positions, watch what happens
get a better assignment
hehe :3
oh that's all I was going to demonstrate, random colored circles in random positions makes noise. It should have been obvious to me, but it dind't click in my head until I did that and produced static
and then I realized the static in our tvs is because whatever is being read by the tv, and being mapped onto color as a tv does, is not coming form any coherant source, its just random entropy, chaos, being mapped onto an image
Yeah there's noise in that rimage
Which is why I didn't use the radius of the circles to colour them red
I used a more creative approach
@lucid junco es una tarea?
Dew's program can see all black circles in any given image, but can it see why kids love Cinnamon Toast Crunch?
It can see why people love you 😉
@brave mango
Black black
But I could modify a line of code to make it work with circles of any colour
Based on the background (which should be strictly 1 (one) colour)
Which could make it process Rat’s image

ah cierto
Cuál es la pregunta? Solo tienes que dividirlos o que?
la pregunta es encontrar k
pero si los divido
y hago: reminder = 0, me queda una ecuacion complicada
Oh ok
ok
lo hiciste?
Hola
Ok
Lo haré también
Wait, maybe I overthought it
Can't you just plug one of the roots of q into p and solve for 0?
There should be no remainder. I'll divide it when I get home from my birthday dinner
ooooooo
it's your birthdayyyy?
sjudjfisidifislff
feliz cumpleeeeee
no nos dijo nada
Yeah
Hmmm I'm getting weird things too
Wanna see how Americans do polynomial long division?
what
wow that seems quite complicated
hahah
we just divide it as if it is a division
i mean it is
but you get me
isn't that sarrus' method
When I thought my math exercises were difficult, then I see this and I forget
i forgot all this crap
@glass dragon I missed this american class what
Haha well you probably just learned long division like edsel
But "the reverse tabular method" as it's called is really popular now
I think? For regular numbers or algebraic things ?
Reading it again, it looks familiar, maybe I just slept thru that unit
@median trail well I feel like you had to have copied it wrong because we both got the same answer when dividing with a remainder
Or something
Or maybe the answer is "no solution"
I give up on Memrise
it is just so slow and a bunch of words I already know
I will just continue adding words to anki 🙃
no if I'm looking at this right, there's an answer, still two roots (although they're not integers)
oh wait
that's a k
I didn't see how this problem started but given that equation there should be 12 pairs of numbers that fit
let me make sure I'm looking at tihs right
I'm only looking at the last picture
the Red Dots
we're gonna start getting taught python in two weeks
until we get to arrays, for which we'll have to switch back to pascal

@marsh linden i'm from US, but I understand words are used differently in different areas
It was never my intention to make anyone feel like I'm calling them wrong
Shouldn't it be "I'm from the US" >.>
You just have a slightly strange way of typing
And if someone is feeling that way I would hope someone could let me know instead of offending anyone further
I mean I wouldn't call it strange x-x just different.
Is my different way of typing/writing wrong, though?
Depends
If you're in a channel for beginners and you make mistakes then it's wrong
There's a difference between word choice and bad grammar
Also slang. That's a no-no
Only in the beginner channels
Slang can be a big part of language. But I understand not using it in beginner channels.
Provide an example using my words, please? So I can understand where I have gone wrong
ur mom, whatchu, wai, wym, anything you wouldn't write in a school paper

Did anyone complain? I don't get what happened
Me neither
Nothing happened, just a few of your comments were slightly strangely-worded
@marsh linden @ashen mist could you explain what you mean by telling me "If you're in a channel for beginners and you make mistakes then it's wrong" and There's a difference between word choice and bad grammar
Im getting the feeling I've offended someone but I don't know why and I don't know who
No one's been offended
Ok I see, I appreciate you showing me specifics
which is probably why you got
s
@celest bay that's quite an exaggeration
3/200 maybe, but I wasn't aware I was being offensive
it's not offensive
Then it was not obvious that I was joking around?
No need to call someone's writing strange or bad grammar over a joke.
The channel is for beginners.
I see, and I understand getting a warning or something but a whole discussion in "color/colour" fashion was unexpected and confusing in a round-about way
I never insisted that someone had bad grammar
Seriously, it was not in spite. I was only being silly
You asked if different ways to typing/talking could be incorrect. And I said it depends. Because word choice and bad grammar are 2 different things
I want to understand why im being told that, but still, I see my emoji game needs to be stepped up and to ease up on the jokes, maybe?
Im trying to enjoy the chat just like anyone else in the channel. My intentions are not to offend or tell someone their wording is strange or wrong because of where they learned it.
I assure you no one is offended. Use of emojis and the like is totally fine, since they're understood regardless of language
@junior thicket idk, I think my emojis were not enough (see above picture).
So..... Am I banned or is the jury is still in deliberation 😅
you'd know if you were banned
Fair enough
I'm cool to go back to beginner English, then? Any advice/suggestions to me before I go? I'd like to avoid this in the future
So we can have fun when we learn
😊
Just "@" me so I can see it :)
Just put in your best effort because other people look up to English natives as role models when learning @unreal pagoda

It’s Harvard’s move in day and we’re driving in the area by chance
It’s anarchy
Plus if you run anyone over they’ll sue you so hard you’ll blip out of existence
It’s Harvard Ryan
Hm I see 🤔 so the campus is pretty nice then?
t!wiki Harvard university
You’re scaring me ryan
Seems kinda expensive though
Ryan pls
whats a harverd?
Lil pump went there
I wonder if they have a good linguistics programs
I dunno bro seems pretty small
Yeaah don’t really know much about it tbh - but it seems nice 👍
isn't haarvard some sort of animal
they misspelled it smh
I just wanted to add more to the confusion
Haha nah I think they were just talking about some uni...
This little church looks kinda pretty!
Pretty nice for a little uni
oh so herdbar is a city hall
Hm idk it’s either an animal, a university, or a city hall
It does look pretty city-hallish
@celest bay but is the campus actually nice though?
I’ve actually never seen pics
Like honestly
It’s fucking gorgeous
No but I grew up and live nearby
And family friends went there
Honestly Harvard’s campus is basically just Cambridge as a whole
Yeah it’s pretty gorgeous looking
I’d just walk around there and pretend to be a student
You don’t have to pretend, you can walk around outside and in a lot of the buildings
Even take classes, though you don’t get credit
Really wow
Obabo
Leave
@celest bay you’d still have to pay like tuition right?
Probably slightly cheaper but still
Okay
Because I’d attend like a half a class and then I’d be able to say “I studied at Harvard”
Work on some cc homework while at the campus on some park bench - technically studying at Harvard
Ryan, in his curriculum: took one (1) class at harvard
Hahah
I got waitlisted at Harvard does that count
you attended Harvard's waitlist
"you can't attend but we don't wanna be rude so here's a fake 'maybe' "
Lol I kinda wanna just apply just for the funsies
It's probably because I fell asleep during their orientations
Mmm
Rain smells so good
It’s rainin omggg
This is crazy
Wait oh my gosh
It’s hailing!

okay back
so there's this
Learn about our tuition rates and how to become a student.
so those cost money but you get credit
had a cousin do one of those courses, he wasn't a harvard student but he was starting work in a public service job so he took a class about that
and then there's the public lectures (events) https://www.harvard.edu/events
been to one of those, it was super fun
and finally you can audit a class (attend a class for no credit) although you probably have to email the professor and ask permission first
@grizzled hedge information dump
Oh wow that’s really cool 😯
I want to say a lot of the ivy league colleges have things like this, but I only know about harvard and mit's stuff
also you can legit wander into parts of harvard and it's okay (there's a poetry room anyone can go read in as long as they sign in)
been meaning to go for about a year now tbh but keep forgetting

from the two people I know (my parents age) who went
you'd have the single worst filing system known to mankind
they file EVERYTHING in massive stacks on the floor and desk
also both are software engineers
hey
there's a running joke in our house "the harvard filing system" because of that
also more mugs than any one human being needs
idk I think going to Harvard would be pretty stressful. Not that any college isn't, but it's everybody else's expectations about it
"software engineer" "filing by hand"
Something doesn't sound right
Idk I ended going to an awesome school so it's more of a hypothetical what-if than regret
I mean their physical paperwork lol
I was surprised at how chill oxford was honestly, even though it was a summer exchange and not a proper full time student thing
totally expected to be dying of stress all the time but it was super chill
but that might be a UK thing not an ivy league thing
I have issues with our educational system here
anything specific?
Sorry I went to bed
For one thing, the focus on standardized tests, or even tests in general sometimes
Kids just cram for exams and then forget 90% of what they studied shortly afterwards, so clearly tests aren't helping them actually learn material in a useful manner. And memorizing facts isn't learning to me. Search engines and resources exist, and I think there should be more emphasis on learning how to learn and how to fill in the gaps of what you don't know, and how to prepare for the real world
More involved projects to actually solidify material that students learn in class, for instance
I imagine some of these can't easily be "quantified" through a test
I don't care if someone can pass an exam or not. What I care is if that person can use their knowledge and apply it to an actual real world scenario
I think so too, I think education should actually be more tied in with the real world
It makes no sense for people to go through the whole school system and come out and have to start from 0 because the real world is nothing like school
There are a lot of real world topics that schools rarely touch on. And if they do, it's optional
Financial literacy, learning how to get into and function in a professional environment
Exactly
How to research stuff you don't know and distinguish between the relevant results and the irrelevant or even misleading results
Even interpersonal relationships and psychology
I.e. how to not fall prey to random Facebook memes
Yeah. Interpersonal relationships is one too
School is not adapting at nearly the same speed as the world is
oh this topic is interesting because my college tries so hard to teach us real stuff, yesterday in my engineering introductory class the teacher brought an expert in data science to tell us what he does and what the requirements are in order to get a job in that field
they even invite students to researching groups
because it's important for them to teach us how to develop an idea and how to search info both on the internet and books
two days ago i was invited to join to a researching group that wants to implement blockchain to the transactions of some kind of special coffee that is grown here in medellin
sistemas
See that's cool because you're actually trying real world applications
meanwhile in my university nobody knows what the hell do systems engineers do
i guess we just do everything
I could have gotten my entire computer science degree from reading books and Google, based on my university's curriculum
Not really
sure you'd need to get corpses to practice in medicine
For bio stuff I can't afford my own lab
but the first years are pure theory
yeah but you don't pay college for labs
you pay for tuition
Ppl do labs in college
people who help you learn
it's not the same to learn on your own
than to be taught
and at 18, or whenever you started college
nobody really knows how to study
at least I don't
Yeah some classes were just useless. I would read slides and not go to some classes
Why waste my time walking there and sitting in a room
Yea but you can still learn 90% of bio from books
ye
The other 10% can easily be learned on the job
Ok I gotta bike to work brb
I was talking even high school and middle school
Not just university
Would benefit from this kind of teaching
Drive safe
Ty ty
Anyway I'm not saying most degrees can't be studied/completed at home. The idea I'm trying to convey is - how can university classes change so that they offer something different? So there's a bigger meaning behind the piece of paper that folks pay a fortune for
@feral goblet well it means that i speak 2,7 languages
oof
🆙 | Pete leveled up!
what it do babyy
so, do yall speak in the languages or is it just writing tips and stuff?
You speak
yeah
nice
@ashen mist inverted classroom
Hmm?
So instead of the insanely dumb system where a dude gets paid to read you the textbook and then you go home and do homework
And have to either email the professor or go to office hours to ask questions
With an inverted classroom you do the reading at home and do structured exercises in class
So you have access to the professor while you're working and you don't run the risk of zoning out for an entire lecture
Sounds more fulfilling
Yay!!
out of 500

It’s no secret that many Americans are lousy writers. Just ask any college professor or employer, including those at prestigious institutions. With the advent of e-mail, writing ability has become more important than ever, and writing deficiencies have become increasingly apparent.
Surely one reason so many Americans lack writing skills is that, for decades, most U.S. schools haven’t taught them. In 2011, a nationwide test found that only 24 percent of students in eighth and 12th grades were proficient in writing, and just 3 percent were advanced.
If students get writing assignments at all, they’re usually of the “write about how you feel” variety. There’s value to that kind of exercise, but it doesn’t provide kids with the tools they need to write analytically.

Why Americans can’t write

(Suradech Kongkiatpaiboon/Bigstock)
By Natalie Wexler
September 24, 2015
Natalie Wexler chairs the board of trustees for the Writing Revolution.
The Common Core education standards, adopted by more than 40 states and the District, attempt to address this deficit. They require that students learn to write fluently about the meaning of what they’re learning — not just in English class, but also in history, science and maybe even math class.
That makes sense: When students put what they’ve read into their own words, they’re more likely to absorb and retain it. And learning to write clearly requires learning to think clearly.
But the authors of the Common Core focusedjust on the skills that students should have at each grade level, not on how to impart them. And few teachers have been trained to teach these writing skills, apparently because educators believe that students will just pick them up through reading. Obviously, most don’t.
The standards also assume students in middle and high school already know the rules of capitalization, punctuation and sentence construction. But that’s often not the case, especially in high-poverty environments.
Faced with high school seniors who can’t compose a simple sentence, teachers may throw up their hands when confronted with an English language arts standard sayingtheir students should “use appropriate and varied transitions and syntax to link the major sections of the text, create cohesion, and clarify the relationships among complex ideas and concepts.”
You have to learn to add before you can do calculus. Similarly, before students can write a coherent five-paragraph essay, they need to learn to write a decent sentence — no matter what grade they’re in.

Sure, you can assign writing, even a lot of it, but time constraints mean the editing and feedback that fuels good writing are often out of the question. I teach at the college level now, and teaching assistants are the only way to assign meaningful amounts of writing to large groups of students and give them any sort of quality experience.
🆙 | Veraniego leveled up!
Mmm no sé
O no reciben tales clases
Me sorprende bastante.
no sabemos pronunciar nada
Ah
But far too many of our students receive little instruction or practice in composition. Here I place the blame squarely on our educational system. In many schools, grammar is neglected after fifth or sixth grade. Unlike math, which follows a natural progression, writing is all too often taught piecemeal or not at all, with little coordination of purpose or sense of advancement from grade to grade. Moreover, I suspect many teachers are averse to the work required to develop competent writers. When I was teaching, I graded an average of 60 essays or journals every week. The work was grueling, the writing rarely inspired, yet that is how writers are made.
Jaja
los ejercicios
que hacíamos todos los días eran tipo :
todos los 365 días del año
Grrr
Story time

Belted in?
@celest bay Is that a correction?
Nope I thought we were talking about alternatives
Oh xD

I did some research when I got home. Running barefoot affects your gait and causes your feet to land differently. Mechanically speaking, your feet absorb the impact better striking with your forefoot than they do than your heel, which is how people tend to run in modern running shoes. Barefoot running changes it to forefoot strikes. This is probably what most people think of when they hear the "barefoot is good for your feet."
However, the same isn't said for just walking around. You're supposed to have some kind of arch support in any shoe you wear. This lines up with what i've been told at the doctor's office. To paraphrase, arch support good, ankle support even better. Many shoes have barely any at all. My doc practically hissed when I came in wearing converse one visit. Said he'd burn the lot of them if he could and put everyone in new balance.

"Decimos que alguien es un pringado cuando se deja engañar fácilmente, comete acciones de extrema torpeza o se implica, voluntariamente o no, en acciones cuyas expectativas no son muy favorables."
@marsh linden

Thanks @lavish estuary

I wanted to get evil Kermit too but I was in a hurry
kermit is like the dew of olden times
remember when something would happen and kermit would rumple up his face
if the face made a sound it'd be like grrrlglglllrlgllrl
like this but more down
Wait did they no

I swear I suggested that one

There's fuss?

everyone's talking about it
It's pretty good
What comes to mind is a bilingual pun, "U wot

I think it's pretty funny
Dumb funny

El daño ha aumentado suficiente
Y los dolores de cabeza no ayudan

Ya

I'm really interested in how a taco isn't a burrito
sandwhich = food between to separate "planes" of similar food
taco = food held within a single "plane"
burrito = food encapsulated withing a single continuous object where you cannot reach the other surface
idk how to explain the burrito one as i forgot the term

Wtf
but as soon as you bite into the burrito you are now able to get to the other side making it a taco...
burrito es un taco enrollado
idk the 4 type model is disputable but there are for sure 3 types: sandwhich, taco and salad
laurens where does pizza fit in your food theorem
think of what you're going to say next
Hmmm I don't understand how biting it makes it a taco
How isn't it just a shorter burrito?
hmm are we talking about the same thing lol
So then is an open faced sandwich a taco?
Oh, maybe not haha. What do you imagine with a burrito?
I am pretty sure the burrito came after the taco
Idk how it's hard. A burrito is a closed taco basically
and more people in Mexico like tacos sooo
I am approaching it with a historical perspective
But Laurens is saying a burrito is fundamentally different from a taco in a graph theory way
this is what i imagine with a burrito
graph theory
"graph" theory?
So when you bite it, it opens the end up
yess and then its a taco
remember a coffee cup and a donut are the same
yesss
they are lol
Ugh y'all talking about Math???
damn am I missing the graph theory talk
hahaha no wer are talking about food
Ok, so explain in different words why the burrito is still different? Can't you just deform a taco to become a tortilla?
I devoted a few days to 'might as well, what the hell' building intuition on all the classic graph theory problem solving
I really want to take a graph theory class
hmm pretty much the argument as i remember is that a burrito is an enclosed taco which somehow made it different
yea im taking graph theory in the spring, amaroq. im pretty excited for it
I guess they're taking the tortilla as not a tortilla, but rather a continuous enclosed slice of bread
its one of the areas of math that seems the most interesting
yea something like that
I see
so a lumpia = a tortilla
hahaha
Lol
thats typology tho its not the same as graph theory
:////////////
topology?
the ironic thing is many talk about how complex math is, where technically often we are actually doing is simplifying, like really simplifying, as in taking a very very very small, specific idea of structure and isolating it and studying just that and really clarifying it. Often the hard part is looking at something very simple and studying it to death
I need a vsauce video on this
and in the case of graphs
we are talking about the extremely simplified, abstract concept of connections, and things that are connected
nein
wait
oh boiiiiii
thsi is all my fault
