Howâs it going?
I Havenât had a chance to speak to you guys today

Neither my parents will shank me
itll be worth it

Please do

Iâm gonna get some rest, thanks for the help guys, Iâll join VC another day when I can actually talk
maths
maths
pls no maths
maths?
maths
maths...
maths
Math
maths
Maths makes more sense
No it doesn't. Name one other word we shorten but just randomly leave the last letter on
No it's not
"mathematics is hard"
Nobody says "mathematics are hard"
And you can't have a single mathematic
It's a singular word that ends in an s
if you cant have a single mathematic then why say math
Because when you shorten words, you take off the end of them
You don't just randomly leave the last letter
We don't call a personal computer a PCr
It's not plural
It's a singular noun
It follows literally every single rule for singular nouns
it's used as a singular but it's still plural
It's not plural, people just keep the S on the end when they shorten it
It checks out. Genetics, Astrophysics are singular
paraguas is singular
physics(?
parabrisas is singular
ehm
"maths" just sounds like something a kid would say to me
los parabrisas
But nobody says stat for statistics so
los parabrisas son utiles
todos los ejemplos en spanishdict dicen "el parabrisas" đŠ
spanishdict es un mentiroso
pero los parabrisas si estuvieras hablando de varios autos
ah, ya veo
y la conjugaciĂłn supongo
o sea
oh
el parabrisas es util
los parabrisas son utiles
gracias
uwu
wow
Rip drink
it's maths and anything else is wrong
hello yes I do enjoy doing a mathematic from time to time
It's also TVn and ACr because we keep the last letter on every other shortened word we make
statistics becomes stats not stat
some words just do that sometimes
n math sounds wrong
english was never about consistency tbh
No, unfortunately it's not consistent. Hopefully we can change that, one word at a time, starting with math.
words ending in "ths" make me feel funny
well no one asked for your opinion you burger eating eagle fuckers it's maths not math
It would be a shame to break off diplomatic relations with one of our greatest allies over the spelling of a word
but I am willing
Zedress is already halfway there lol
This sounds interesting

I personally don't care which is correct. All I'm saying is the whole "ths" sound is funny to me
"baths" is the same too
americans questioning a language that doesn't even belong to them is also funny to me

we came from your country LOL
there's a reason you dont live with us anymore
Here's a very interesting link to a bit of research somebody did. https://english.stackexchange.com/a/469026
I swear half the linguistics trends come from some half-famous author way back when
Lmao i've been speaking american english all this time but saying maths nevertheless
"shit I made a mistake in my writing... but I won't tell anyone"
puzzle keep it up
Hello
It is maths
Have a good day
Zedress owns the English language confirmed
You may ask for permission to use his language
ye ur aight m8 it's just these americans i have a problem with

lol that's like spain telling latin america to shut up and stop speaking spanish

No
Iâve been a fuckwit
And thatâs an understatement
I wrote the question down wrong in my book

I changed a + to a -
Thanks anyways lmfao
âHardest questionâ my arse
Ah actually this one
You remember the graph question @gentle heath
Like with avg speed
yes

@gentle heath my dude
u broke it again
Can you assist me in a mathematical question
Yerp
Itâs not hard
I just donât understand
perhaps I can
whats the equation
Arenât they different things though
wont change the size of the graph much

the ks are different ye
I'm just lazy
you know what y=1/x^2 looks like?

phis a good one
Why is that
there's not many that aren't used in certain bits of maths

Did I miss the maths
It wasnât anything fun
It never is
Debatable
Uh oh
What
If you actually go to uni to study maths, that's one thing. I would've enjoyed it if that were the case
For me, it was just something I needed to get done for the degree I really cared about
The irony is that I ended up getting a degree in maths as well so I guess it wasn't a total loss
Definition of what from Dictionary.com, the worldâs leading online source for English definitions, pronunciations, word origins, idioms, Word of the Day, and more.
every major dictionary classifies it as a pronoun when used in interrogatives
Okay so I was wrong on that then
and probably the minor ones too but I don't feel like looking up every dictionary
However I still don't agree with the sentiment that they're what directs how the verb is being conjugated
That was really my main point
that was never my point at all
Not the pronoun argument
my point was simply that it was the subject of the sentence
Which I still don't agree with
or rather the subject of the verb "is"
Because you're asking what a thing is
yes, so "thing" which is replaced by "what" is the subject
If I ask "how is x" person doing, then why does the verb change according to the "x" of the sentence
Instead of staying the same conjugation throughout
"how" does not become a subject in the same way "what" does. It's not a pronoun like that
"who" and "what" are the two interrogatives that become subjects
I could say the same thing for "who" though
could you?
because in the sentence "who is X", who is definitely the subject of the verb "is"
if I say "I am tall", tall is not the subject. If I say "who is tall", tall is not the subject".
Why can you have "who am I," "who are you," "who is she/he," etc., so again, why does the conjugation keep changing?
if i say "I am a teacher" teacher is not the subject. If I say "who is a teacher", teacher is still not the subject
Okay see that makes more sense
I think I may have misunderstood you initially because I was thinking of the questions I listed above
well then if I say "what it is a dog", dog isn't the subject, and if I say "a canine is a dog", dog is still not the subject
it's the same with roflecopter
Because you seem to be talking specifically about when it becomes a pronoun rather than all across the board (which is what I thought you meant before)
"what is a roflecopter", "what" is a pronoun that stands in for an unknown subject, for example "a means of expressing laughter is a roflecopter"
Yes I get that now
"qué es..." What is..?
"Lo que me molesta es..." What bothers me is..
@lavish estuary
T busco + luego q me quede sin bateri

El diccionario dice que cotorro es una persona que habla mucho, pero esa definiciĂłn no tiene sentido en ese contexto
cotorro es un pĂĄjaro, parecido a un loro

@celest bay Puzzle has gone to study, hes desperate to get his grade for the course he wants
he's desperate to hate his grade?
Sorry, typo
But yeah he really wants to study hard as not very many people are allowed on this course
ah gotcha
lets have it
Okay good, let me get home
did my last proper maths exam today
Was it hard?
2+2=10
Is that the correct formula I need?
Mines about ratio so Iâm a little unsure how to substitute that
Yeah let me grab some food and Iâll send it in
Thanks
Ignore my writing/working
@gentle heath @ashen mist
am having a go
Okay cheers
X = number of boys originally, y = number of girls originally
X/y = 3/4
Then (x-6)/y = 5/8
And you solve for y
But x is there no?
You can rewrite x in terms of y
And then substitute for x in the other equation
E.g. x= y(3/4)
Yeah
You have the second equation to work with
You can rewrite that second equation so all you have left is y
How so?
yeah I went the same way as veraniego
I got half way xD
it gives u two eqns and you just need to interpret the two and solve simultaneously
hey that's pretty tricky for gcse
the ratio of boys to girls originally is 3:4
if you take x to be the original no of boys
and y to be the original no of girls
Yeah I almost did that
then you can say x/y = 3/4
Yeah
thats equation 1
then if 6 boys leave
you can remake the same eqn for afterwards
(x-6)/y = 5/8
those are your two equations
you have done simultaneous equations right
it's a tough simultaneous equation question for gcse yeah
Can you walk it through
ill go how I went
Okay
rearrange the first equation for y
Y = (3/4) /x ?
y = 4x/3
Fewer steps if you write x in terms of y, but same thing
yeah I know
đ | Husky leveled up!
How did you get that though
But weâre finding y
yes
So we divide by x?
if you divided through by x
I see what I did
youd get 1/y = 3/4x lol
Wtf
which you could then flip to get the right answer tbh
Iâm so confused
whats broke
wanna find y
or do u wanna find x
finding x has less overall steps
or do u still want me to clarify rearranging for y
okay my way first then
Yeah
x/y = 3/4
Yeah
Or 3/4 y ?
yes
Okay yeah
Yeah but itâs only Gcse xD
yeah thats why i had it in the numerator
3/4y can imply 3/(4y)
ye so thats the equation for x
Okay
you can use that and skip some steps
or rearrange for y if you're like me and are running on pure instinct
Which steps
cos I had an exam today
Lmao
if you rearrange for x
then you can eliminate the xs in the other equation
and solve directly for y
if you do it the otherway around
you solve for x
then you have to go back and use your value of x to find y
using the 1st equation
Okay
y is the answer you want remember
Can you write it out? Sorry to be a nuisance
You can do it on here if you want
typing maths is awful
Okay haha
without latex*
Latex
don't judge the handwriting too much
It gets the job done
thats all that matter
s
No no I really appreciate that youâre actually helping haha
thats fuckin blurry on desktop
can u read that okay
I tried not to skip fat steps
Itâs testing ylu that one
it's testing understanding ye
Is that actually simultaneous
Is it simultaneous
yes
con eso sacaste que x = 3y/4 => x = 3 (4) /4 => x = 12 / 4 => x = 3
So why do they get merged
the way you learn simultaneous equations is literally one particular case
its retarded
Wtf
Thatâs annoying
and multiple equations
Iâve made most sense out of it
if you can't eliminate a variable the way that you get taught
then you need to substiture
substitute*
aka
what I did
Yeah
substitution always works
it's really weird the way they teach you it tbh
Like
cos it's a nice trick to know
x + 2y = z
yeah
Whats it actually like
but they then don't teach you how to solve them properly
when that trick doesn't work
Whats the trick
Linear Algebra to the rescue
Iâll probably need to know this
you learned simultaneous equations as in ax+by = c
Yeah
and dx + ey = f
then you get add or minus the two equations to eliminate one of the variables
Yeah
Also the picture was fine btw it was good quality
you have to rearrange and substitute
yes veraniego where would we be without some inverse matrices
that's how you solve simultaneous equations when they get too big to do by hand
linear algebra
That sounds fun
it's useful if nothing else
uhhhh not gcse tier
will get u some graph theory my g
it came up a load on my exam today
and proud to say I mugged it right off
Sorry I meant the one I sent in
But Iâll happily take any really
Paper 1 tomorrow

No entiendo

Nerds
@sacred harbor yeah you got it broski
@drowsy sparrow GCSEs my dude
@sacred harbor jajaja lo va a confundir
@gentle heath Thankyou very much btw, Paper 1 is tomorrow and then the rest are later in the week
Thanks, non calc isnât that bad
Ya ves qué xD
Digo que yo entiendo ahorita
Pero entiendes qué? Lmao
Qué
Oh sorry I didnât realise you were replying to me

Imagine life the other way around
ye, you dont even get predicted grades for em
You "wake up" being a retired, getting paid. Then you start working. With the pass of the time, you become a teenager, and you have lot of money (if you havent wasted it). Then, you will slowly die while you approximate to "the year 0" while you recive cuddles and die in peace in a cot
Curious case of Benjamin Button
It's a movie about a guy who is born old and lives backwards
It's a neat movie
You wake up retired*, getting paid. Then you start working. With the passing* of time, you become a teenager, and you have a lot of money (if you haven't wasted it). Then, you will slowly die while you approximate (not sure what you mean) to the year 0 while you receive* cuddles and die in peace in a cot
Neat= brilliant?
neat = cool
Mientras te aproximas al año cero, me refiero como, al principio de una vida, como si nacieras
Pero en realidad estĂĄs muriendo
@gentle heath it was so fucking hard
ahahahahahahah
But I tried my best
It was made to be really really hard ho

âThere are double the women than men at this officeâ
1/4 of women wear glasses
3/8 of men wear glasses
84 people wear glasses in total
How many people are at the office
that's just a simultaneous equation again
u just need to formulate it
want me to have a go
Lmfao
x = # of men, y = # of women
3x/8 wear glasses,
y/4 wear glasses
84 = (3x/8) + (y/4)
y = 2x
Should be all you need
Final answer should be x + y
start with the unknowns
you don't know how many men or women there are
so you assign them variabeles
in this case, I call "x" the number of men in the office, and "y" the number of women in the office
Yeah as usual
so the total number of people in the office would be x+ y, which is what we want
the problem says that 3/8 of the men wear glasses
so (3/8)*x will give us how many men wear glasses
Yeah
and the problem says that 1/4 of the women wear glasses
so (1/4)*y will give us how many women wear glasses
the problem also says that 84 people total wear glasses
Okay
Yeah I got that
the problem also says that there are twice as many women as men
so y = 2*x
the number of women = 2 * the number of men
that's your second key equation
Yeah I did that
veraniegos better at explaining than me
and then you use the value for x to solve for y
I'll leave him to it
then you add x and y together to get the final answer
I have an important meeting soon lol
Thanks very much
np
Itâs these new simultaneous equations they kill me man
it's always the same underlying process
- write all the equations you know based on the information from the problem
- reduce the complexity by figuring out how to write each variable in terms of the other one(s)
you'll get the hang
- start finding the values for each vairable
yeah it takes practice, but you'll get used to it
don't get overwhelmed by the fact that there are multiple unknowns
you just have to remember that you can write one variable in terms of another
because there is going to be some relationship
if you have multiple unknowns then ur move is always to eliminate one
with the relationship ye
so in that q it was y=2x
