How do you go in to build mode to edit a building? I hope the Demolition Hammer isn't a bad omen.

If it's the same as the other versions of the game, then there is no edit mode for buildings like there is for ships and cars. You have to manually remove blocks using either the demo hammer or by taking the block back with right-click while in free-place mode
