#particle system, trail renderer or decals?

When having scuff marks or blood trails when dragging something, is it better to do it via the particle system, trail renderer or by decals? Or is there a better alternative?

That might depend on the effect your trying to go for, and its lifetime/importance to your game, if its short-lived and doesnt need to be perfectly aligned with geometry/ground surface, then maybe a trail renderer could work, if it should, maybe particle systems or VFX Graph would work better, if its meant to stick around for a while or indefinitely, then decals might work better, this channel on YouTube has tons of videos on VFX Graph, some are "ground attacks" others are things like "snow trails" and other kind of trails, maybe you can see if any are similar to the features of the kind of effect you want, and tweak it to fit your game: https://www.youtube.com/@GabrielAguiarProd/search?query=trail
