One thing I've not quite understood - why do Bungeecord servers need to run in offline mode? As far as I was aware, Bungeecord just replicates plugin configs, interactions, and events across multiple servers for load balancing purposes... or if for some reason you wanted to run multiple servers with a hub world that allows you to access any of them.

So I guess what I'm asking is what benefit it grants to BungeeCord to keep players from authenticating with Mojang to confirm their identity? I would think that being able to definitively verify a player by id would be greatly beneficial to keep track of them. Does this online mode do more than just offer an identity service?

Also if you use Spigot (or one of it’s forks) or Sponge, they have a bungee mode. Where they explicitly check if the connection is coming from a bungee and they use the UUID the bungee tells them so that the servers still use the online UUIDs of the servers

#

And the bungee needs to have IP-Forwarding enabled

#

This is all standard stuff btw. No extras needed. Just enabling the settings on the respective servers

Firewall seems the right way to go there. I imagine setting up the Bungee server like an F5 and, while the other servers may be in the DMZ, set up routing so their path to the internet is through the F5.

Not sure if that would work for everything though, such as if you wanted them to be able to do OS updates (unless the Bungee server could behave as a Layer 3 switch as well).

I rely primarily on word of mouth. Just make sure you offer something unique. Otherwise, there are several sites you can leverage for voting and such, and the more votes per day you have the higher you get sorted on their pages. That tends to be a good way as well.

Try to see if there's an event that fires for when a player uses a bed, test if that use was successful (i.e. it didn't kick them back out with the message "you can only sleep at night") and if so, set the time to 600 ticks.

Basically, I want a multiverse-like setup. I run an rp server, so I have one world, which is where rp will primarily take place, which prevents you from mining or placing blocks unless you own a particular area. Also, the world there is painted, and there are no resources to be found there except for trees and (cobble)stone, and whatever you find naturally on the surface. So I have a dedicated resource collection world which you can get to using a warp on a boat.

I'm looking to replicate that on my SpongeForge server.

It's been a bit since I've played with faction/towny chat, but local chats can be done just by setting a chat radius and a staff chat can be made by setting a custom permission node for the channel, typically venturechat.channel.<channel name>

So you'd just grant your staff users that permission and it allows them to see it under /chlist and to join that channel.

I don't know if it's "best", but I use it after coming over from HeroChat because it has a good API. I was leveraging that because I was writing my own factions plugin.

Secondly, that entirely depends on your hosting provider. Chances are, no.

I say that because chances are they're just providing you with access to a VMWare guest OS, and hypervisors like VMWare and HyperV don't really support dual booting. If you want another OS, you just build another VM.

#

Also, making sure we're not nixing terms here - a VPS is a virtual private server that you pay a hosting company for. I don't believe that's what you have, since you mentioned it's Win10 Pro.

Most likely, it would be running something like Ubuntu Server, CentOS, or maybe WinServ 2012 or 2016.

My host provider for my Minecraft game with only 5 players on at nighttime says I need to upgrade even though I should be able to have 16 players on there. Is he trying to fleece me? I had a RAM problem when the fifth player came on but my server should be able to hold 16 players, and I don't have a lot of plugins.

Also, opinion time- do you think something like this would be worth spending my time developing?

I was thinking about how much I dislike having to port Spigot plugins to Sponge, so I was thinking I could make an API wrapper that would expose a common API for anyone developing plugins, but be compatible with Sponge, Forge, and Spigot.

It would probably have to be a different version of the API wrapper based on what platform you were targeting, though I feel if it were well-written it could help make porting mods easier, or else developing them the first time to be "cross platform".

Other question is, do I make this like Helper where it's just a class library you can build atop of or do I make this more like the Java runtime where you install a mod/plugin on your server and then just write a single version of your mod that only hooks that plugin's API, as well as any API for any plugins the mod/plugin may depend on.

I am using the Sponge version of PlaceholderAPI. According to their wiki, the placeholders are pretty much identical to the Vault version. I'm trying to use the placeholder %player_displayname%, yet it is showing my username.

I'm not too familiar with G-Suite, but if you're given custom profile fields, you can store their unique ID (for instance, I'm 197291773133979648) and if a user joins the server with that ID, give them a member role that lets them see the server.

Your app would just hook into both the Discord API and the G-Suite API, or more accurately, your preferred wrapper for the language you're using.

The Microsoft Docs page on the PowerShell bitlocker module lists the following:

Get-BitLockerVolume | Enable-BitLocker -EncryptionMethod Aes128 -RecoveryKeyPath "E:\Recovery\" -RecoveryKeyProtector```

This gets all bitlocker volumes on the computer and pipes them into Enable-Bitlocker, which is accepting a path to an existing recovery key. What format is this key in (is it a .pks or just the text file?) and does this imply that I can use the same recovery key across multiple devices?

So a bit of background on this - these are medical kiosks that provide a web portal in order to perform tests using hardware attached to the device. Enabling bitlocker is just a marketing ploy - that is, it's a moot point. No sensitive data, including PHI, is stored on disk at any point. We're just putting bitlocker on the device because it makes it sound more secure. It's abusing bitlocker but the decision was above my paygrade. So, I'm wanting to make management as easy as possible for our tech support. If it's possible to use the same recovery key everywhere, that is far preferable.

That's kinda what we're going for though. Normally that would be a cause for concern, but even if that recovery key got out into the wild, one would need to steal a kiosk or else smash it open and steal the drives. And once they got it home, all they'd find is a Windows Embedded workstation with just enough to run IE.

So installing bitlocker is sort of a joke in itself from a technical or security perspective.
