That error means that your config either doesn't have something set properly that it expects, or there is a bug with the plugin
At that point the only real way to know what is to look at the source code, which we don't have

@mellow mauve @coral lantern Fun fact, hypixel use Google Cloud, and nobody manually configures the VPSes - there's thousands. They're all brought up and torn down automatically, from templates, as they're needed. The dedi with 1tb of ram is a friend's, they took it off someone's hands who needed to get rid of it, and just colocating it in a datacenter costs $200 a month because of the power costs. It's be pointless to give a single MC instance all that RAM though - @night beacon is correct that giving minecraft, or more generally any java program, such massive amounts of ram would be an awful idea - the garbage collector would just kill itself. Some software I've written in Kotlin spins up ESXi VM instances with MC templates that get a dhcp IP, contact the main server to ask for an id, then register themselves as available. That way I can say we need 20 more servers and they'll make themselves. Also, a network as big as Hypixel could never use shared hosting. They're way too big and require way more advanced features. When they used MCPH, they purchased dedicated servers, not individual game servers.

That crashed it multiple times, until I finally limited it to 1GB RAM
Now it runs on 600+ guilds with a min RAM of 512M and 1G of max RAM....

General gist is that players shouldn't be able to connect directly to the spigot servers themselves
If they can, you have a security issue; You can prevent that with a firewall or for shared hosting, I recommend BungeeGuard (but, that will require Paper instead of Spigot); There was a plugin called slashserver that would let you add commands like /hub
