if you haven't firewalled your server and they are in offline mode without setting up ip forward correctly then it is easy for someone to spoof someone elese UUID and join in. The spigotmc wiki has details on how to fix this in their bungeecord guide

the vanilla world border is very limiting compared to a plugin

like, the vanilla one is a square only, and setting it sets it for all worlds/dimensions. you cannot make rectangle, circle, or elliptical borders. you cannot use a different size on different worlds/dimensions, etc.

i say 100GB, but that's an estimate after some use. a fresh world that hasnt been played on at 50K is about 60GB. as people play they start storing more data in chunks (like chests), entities spawn in, air gets replaced with builds (making each chunk compress less efficiently), etc. 100GB is a safe estimate for hard usage, but realistically it would be much smaller

I'd say from experience, as long as it isn't less then 20megabits/s you should be fine for a decent amount of players. Bare minimum would be 5megabits/s imo.

I have access to MySQL. I use it for other things. I choose not to use it for LP. Much easier to review the files than type SQL commands (and I'm SQL literate -- worked 10 years at a DB company). Also much easier to tell when permissions files change, without pawing SQL logs. What was the question again? 😃

Still what people (and you @bitter robin ) miss is that to join a server is a privilege. Not a right. So with that in mind to block access to a UUID is the sever owner/s choice. They pay for the bill, they are responsible for any legal issues that might arise from the dedi/VPS. Not a user that joins and wants to beat their chest and say "oh i'm hacking. Oh also I only do it just to check server setups" In many countries that is illegal. I know in Australia that falls under the Criminal Code - Illegal access to computer program and/or data. I have a confusion. Suppose my server version is 1.8.something. and I've used ViaVersion to allow rest of the versions above 1.8.something to join. Will they be able to place new blocks?

I recommend using the latest serverversion (1.12.2) with ViaVersion and either ViaBackwards (Allows 1.9+ players to join) or ViaRewind (Allows 1.7+ players to join)
That way, 1.12 players can use and place the new blocks, while it looks like the old one for 1.9+ players (eg. Concrete is terracotta for 1.9+ players)

in 1.10+ servers, it's required to have ViaBackwards if you want to use ViaRewind

ViaBackwards was designed, to have a server with the newest version, while players with 1.9+ can still join.
ViaBackwards is almost the same, but allows players with 1.7 (or 1.8+ idk) to join the server

Just wondered what people do with the End on their server. Do you let players just respawn the dragon or do you reload the entire End each time the dragon is slain? I want to build something permanent in there but I also want players to kill dragon, get the loot and get the shulkers and stuff. I don't know what strategy to take. Any suggestions?

MC 1.9 and above i think a player can re-spawn the ender dragon. If you really want to build something use Multiverse

Respawned Dragons do not drop an egg (and only give 500 experience, instead of 12000). You'd have to regen the end world to have a "first dragon" again, unless there are other methods I don't know of.

Our setup consists of "ores" dimensions, resource worlds that get reset every week, overworld, nether and the end. That way players get a chance to slay the dragon and grab the egg each week.

Does anyone know the arguments for allowing players to break a specific block, such as snow, within a region protected by worldguard? I've created a spleef arena and would like players to break snow but that's the only thing they can break.

There is a blacklist.txt file in your WorldGuard/worlds/world_name folders, it has a bit of information on how you can set up blocks to be allowed. Read more about it here: https://worldguard.enginehub.org/en/latest/blacklist/

But first to use the blacklist.txt file as a whitelist, you have to add a setting in the world's config.yml:

  use-as-whitelist: true```

Just know that anything set in blacklist.txt applies to the whole world, and not just a single region.

There might be other plugins that will let you add a flag to a region to allow certain blocks, that would be a better option IMO.
