okay but holy shit what are they cooking with these why did they buff projectile sizes AND support healthpools too
i mean it'd be a bit silly to have all dps walking around with 300hp and supports still 200 đ
but neither of the changes were necessary
well from the images and that wanted leak, it seems that everyone is getting health pool buffs

If I had to make an educated guess, I would assume that buffing health pools is an alternative to nerfing healing and damage across the board
i kinda feel like ttk was fine right now because things already felt unkillable
where's the healing nerfs to compensate for more health

I havent played dps at all this season because Symmetra feels awful
pharah rework was alr announced that is NOT the issue lol
not really when it doesn't seem like most of the dps damage is buffed, it just makes killing people slower

these are all changes for the sake of change to be very honest
woob buffing everything else in the game and keeping the source of the problem the same just asks for history to repeat itself

tracer also gets a net nerf because everyone got 50hp more while she got only 25
which means she's gonna have a harder time killing people

I can't really bring myself to get too worked up over these patch notes before seeing the whole thing or them in game, but it's interesting - I'm slightly worried about Mercy since she doesn't appear to get anything
Damage-Boost could go either way, in that feels less effective because bigger health pools but then also could potentially feel really good if ttk is indeed lowered. Mostly :/ at the support passive being nerfed to 2.5 seconds and her almost certainly getting hit in the crossfire again

One thing I will say - if these changes are real, I'll be especially annoyed that they didn't mention in that one blog post that the auto healing passive would take 5 seconds to kick in for DPS and tank, because that would've helped with the premature shitfest a lot

If Season 9 Leaks are real:
-Massive Nerf to Supports in General (more hp combined with new DPS Passive will make healing less powerful)
-Massive Nerf to Oneshots (And Kiriko 2/3 Tap, Hanzo and Widow will be way weaker)
-Massive Buff to Tanks

I'm just generally surprised they would go about this way
Obviously I'm worried about Mercy falling behind and there's a chance this ends up fucking horrible but like - the projectile changes are hopefully small enough that if you're bad, it won't be noticable but if you're good, it'll feel better which I think would be nice
The health pool changes are interesting - I like the idea of them trying to remove the spikes where you instantly explode and a lot of people have described OW atm as "either you die instantly or nothing dies at all", and while I'm a bit worried about the latter, that DPS passive and no healing buffs sounds like it can work out
Kinda worried about how lw will do with the new damage passive, but if he gets the bigger projectile size then maybe it could be alright? who knows
i dunno ive just kinda reached a point where i find ow discussion a bit tedious because people get really negative and really pissy towards people who aren't immediately huge doomers and it makes the conversation not really fun for me anymore - but then also i think criticism is valid and healthy and the ow balance team don't have a great track record
the projectile changes are kinda massive, ram got one from 0.075 to 0.01 and it is a huge buff you can feel its so good
this one is 5x the size
most of the changes are 0.05 to 0.08
it's why I've distanced myself from ow twitter/reddit entirely
like don't get me wrong, this is not the changes i would have chosen, and i have concerns about how this will feel for support since that's my personal favorite role to play
but like, idk i have been playing this game long enough to know that sometimes playing the game feels different, esp with so many changes that can potentially switch up the meta in ways people don't initially realize

see i would be eager to try these changes but its just hard to do that because the dev team has never shown willingness to revert changes that dont work out
Nerfing healing globally is purely a GM+ change it seems

I think this is my biggest Pain point now that you mentioned it actually - the devs seemingly have been more open to flat out reverting changes in the last year or so, but it's still not super frequent
and even when they revert something it takes sooo long
like the mei deep freeze thingy stayed for 3 or 4 seasons i think

The 15 second pylon feels a bit clunky but then when the cooldown is short, it feels too good
Healing pylon is a neat idea but just struggles if people know where it is

Tho a hero doesn't need to be competitively viable to be a good hero is what I always say
dueling her is ass too because u need to take away ur attention to destroy pylon all while she's shooting u
the turret feels irritating but also like idk whenever i get an illari i feel like it's gg
dueling both is super annoying tbh lol

like i am more apprehensive about an illari on my team than a lucio or lifeweaver...

One of the differences between 5v5 and 6v6 is that fights were slower in 6v6 - geninue question but do people who prefer 6v6 want slower fights in 5v5, and if not why not
like do slower fights appeal to you, basically
current time fight is ok to me, not too long not too short
The game could be dogshit for all they care as long as it's 6v6
slower fights are like, so god awful for flashpoint and koth
you lose a fight in koth and thats like 30-40%
At least it's better than tf2
i'm torn bc on one hand as a support i feel like the longer a fight is, the more agency i have over it
but also yeah for some game modes, a long fight just feels like... you're just wasting the game

i will be real i alr don't like flashpoint and i worry this will make it worse

Flashpoint i feel is fine, maps are ass
for me its the opposite, i like all the diff points and the different strategies you take depending on which spawn you have, like i think they're all fun
but the ticks go by SO fast and plus at most elos, players struggle to get like, the pacing of it bc you CAN take clean fights but nobody does, and it's all just so irritating
like okay on a payload map like say r66, people know that, say, the train is closer to the attackers, and the gas station is closer to the defenders, and Most fights will involve the attackers pushing towards defense and vice versa
like there's only so many places fights can occur and only so many angles to take
you can just walk around people in flashpoint, and on half the points its not even a dramatic flank- fights often go in unexpected directions and it can be hard to draw the line between your own space and the enemy's- teams get split really easily, and all that makes for people who just flat out don't know what to do to take a point or defend it, and it's like, not even in a fun way bc half the time it's just bc one team staggered weird
i wanna say it'll be like push where it'll get better as we grow used to the map type, but ughhh

or the winston goes for the brig first, kind of depends on the situation but i don't think widow will be must pick

Some damage numbers are increased like charge and hammer but not all damage numbers are being buffed

I was cautiously optimistic over the Cass and Mei cc changes but they turned out to be garbage

I like current sombrero too when i play against opponents who know how to deal with her
Tho when I add sombra to my 1v1 mode I'm gonna figure out a way to make a loop in sombra's code where invis isn't infinite

But sombra is a ways away
But the invis character does not need 250hp
After my 1v1 event(check #event-announcements shameless plug) I'm gonna add Genji and Zenyatta to the mode to see if mobility creep is the way to go
Also with that update I'm gonna see how the season 9 changes affect my mode, see what tweaks need to be made, and make those tweaks before adding Genji and Zenyatta
Also I'm making the hard cap for damage on all heroes 120 in my 1v1 mode
I just feel like that is a fair number

But I have a balance philosophy that if a hero has a lot of movement, reduce their healing and vice versa
Mercy has a lot of movement which is why her healing ability completely halts her

this is way too far back but i still wanted to reply to this
the main reason why people want 6v6 back is because the game was simply built around that format. offtanks suffer in ow2 because their kits were meant to pressure from offangles instead of being a frontline brawler, the power level between roles is massively messed up because they just took out one slot with not really a lot of compensation as to how it would change the way the game is played
it just took so much agency away from players, especially dps players. there's no hyper clutch moments anymore because building ult charge got a net nerf, there r way too many immos and tanks are just not 1v1'able anymore
i would like fights to be slower if it meant that people would actually get punished for their mistakes, especially support players

I like 5v5 because the game is easier to read
not directed at you specifically but dumbing down ow to a fps game with abilities instead of letting it be a moba fps hybrid is kinda what the ruined the game

Not been in OW that long but dumbing down any long-running, high-skill ceiling game to cater to the game-du-jour crowd is almost always a bad idea
Not cause elitism (not been here close to long enough to be even slightly good enough for that
) but because it gives players who invest in the game less to accomplish and develop
i said it above but with the larger projectile sizes so everyone can hit headshots but also the extra health so no-one dies, i really hope these leaks either arenât true or are an intentional leak to gauge reaction
But of course theyâre leaks so letâs see what happens
yeah that's pretty much what happened with every hero that got added after ow1's release except for a few balanced ones like ashe and jq
I feel like if iâm gonna invest years in a game/hobby i donât want everything handed to me day 1
I want slow progression where i can learn skills or movement abilities that here and there give me an edge over opponents so i can grow into the game
And everyone plays in their own way
there's always been the argument of skill floors, skill ceiling and how much skill expression you can have but the opinions are greatly divided depending on if the player is competitive, casual or a mix of both
I feel like a low skill floor isnât inherently bad so people can have a base competency early and have fun right away
But a high skill ceiling is vital for longetivity
personally my opinion is just that someone playing a hero on its skill floor shouldnt be able to do better than a person playing their hero at their ceiling

I don't disagree with stuff said but I feel like aiming in OW is a lot harder than other games due to the amount of different hitboxes and high amount of movement
and also sure "bad" players might benefit from this, but won't good ones as well
yeah everybody misses shots, and projectile sizes exist in the game for a reason
As a lifetime hitscan player, projectiles alone break me and itâs been so fun learning how to be calculated with them

it's just like, a way to increase damage output without introducing higher burst damage breakpoints I think
It is slightly ironic that everyone complained about too much healing in the game so apparently the plan was âmore heath, more healing and more damage to heal!â
percentage-wise healing is weaker
(I was not one of those complainers)
And percentage wise tracer received a huge nerf

As someone embarking on a tracer main arc though, it is super sad they nerfed her hard

but the incoming changes will change a lot of characters
my first impressions is that with the damage passive, healing isn't as effective
so maybe a more damage oriented playstyle would be needed
especially with the global projectile size buffs
Iâd have personally gathered a damage increase rewarding good aim
Rather than just making healing less effective by turning everyone into moira
Like, same projectile size but does more damage
that could work, but it might lead back to the issues of burst damage

but i think perma caut on primary fire could be a little broken so i think make it so it only procs every like 15 seconds or something

But on average sheâs now in line with buffed moira (since moira canât crit, just comparing apples with apples)

it's actually 3
on a Soldier in season 8
on reaper that turns to 4
Now being season 9 which was the context of the discussion

3 is only 225 damage and most squishies are 250

Yeah but the fact it locks on and follows you regardless of movement is kind of hilariously sketchy
And now it requires less precise aim on top of that which is a bit of a ballache for people who play characters with no real movement abilities

i mean the only way i can get some damage in diamond is damage orbs and ulting from my backline
if I dare go into the front line to refuel i get one shotted
Youâd be amazed how often moira is top damage/elims while doing literally nothing besides glancing in the general direction of people

In many games where most players donât know how to react/defend themselves, moira is sort of the kind of character where

Itâs a cheese and people are punished for playing characters that require mechanical ability
I drilled early on how to handle her for that reason
so low elo is the reason the community just dislikes moira
But sadly moiras stomp most low elo games and every potg is just a crosshair going 
hot woman deserves better:((
Youâll see moiras go 25/4 in lobbies where the average is 10/8 and write âezâ when they did literally fucking nothing 
But i do also respect why games balance top down

And moira is pretty easy to dumpster with any level of awareness
(At low elo)
But she does offer massively disproportionate value in low elo to how much the game babies the player with balls that float around silently nowhere near her or a beam that locks on and if you donât have a TP/Immo many players have no idea how to escape
Since only one person in that duel as to aim, and many people in low elo struggle with that at the best of times
Thatâs probably why sheâs hated 
i did end up playing the other day a comp game where this moira living in our backline was destroying us until we began to like, play together so she couldn't kill us, and just killed her full team while she was afk in the backline
Yeah. Any kind of buddy system and sheâs useless
the devil works in mysterious ways
and i mentioned how she was hard throwing and raidi said "the sad thing is he probably destroys lobbies doing this all the time"
and he's kind of right like if we weren't in a stack i doubt my average teammates would know how to react
Moira would be fine if she required any aim at all to do damage
i think the bigger issue is how survivable she is
Even if it is slow, if youâre trapped many people have no escape
like, her damage isn't that bad, but it sucks when she can just escape for free

welcome to overwatch, half the abilities don't take aim
see, sombra isn't that bad since her changes bc she has to actually stop attacking to go invis
and same with tracer, you can see where she comes from often
my wr would drop to 50%
versus moira like, her whole kit is designed around her not dying
Yeah itâs complicated for me cause i weirdly accept all that and itâs all good. I think itâs more âprincipleâ for me with moira/torb/sym where the better mechanical player is not who has an advantage many times
her lifesteal + she has orbs that heal + fade
gotta learn which 1v1s to take or not is all

some characters are just silly good at 1v1s inherently, but moira's weak against certain heroes if you're willing to learn them

one of the only hero i struggle against, i wouldn't 1v1 a cass
She is only an issue for me on sombra cause of the nature of how sombra is played and how isolated you usually are
But i donât complain too much cause sheâs necessary as a counter
Pretty easy to handle on almost everyone else i play
Unless youâre 10hp, away from everyone and a random ball some moira threw last week in a different match comes floating by silently behind you 
bet youâre still better than most

Yep. Whatâs funny cause iâm still pretty new my mmr is continually going up (> 50% global win rate) and so who I can 1v1 on average changes weekly 
i do like how they removed stun to add this instead with a big damage
when they have a hero who counters your typical playstyle, consider using a different playstyle to counter Them
Junkrats used to be free a few months ago. Now theyâre calculated geniuses
like, obviously as sombra you want to dive supports mostly, but if they have a moira, it may be better to play sombra 76 a bit

like occasionally the mind games are effective but like, that's a situational thing that shouldn't be done Every fight
You can accomplish surprising things with just a detection ring
Itâs not great value but itâs some
Especially if the support starts going bloodthirst mode 
the issue that i have with invis is Mostly that it allows players with poor gamesense to feed without like, paying attention to their team at all
