honestly the theory that everything is fake is a massive cop out and not even entirely backed by the game. I seem to remember hearing once anyway that airdorf didnt like plots that just ended with lol none of it was real we're just crazy. it just means that none of it actually matters. the reason chapter 2 works so well is because it DOES matter. ive seen people argue that chapter 2 just being a dream is cheap but john talks about his nightmares being real multiple times, and theres a lot of symbolism and lore throughout it. we are learning something through the dream - as is john. it has purpose. the dream isnt just for cheap scares and pointless plot. it would be very strange for airdorf to back track on that.
is john's reality likely heavily distorted due to trauma and demonic influence? yes. is it all in his head? nah.
the fun part is figuring out what is reality, and what is distorted.

Give him the benefit of the doubt. There's obviously a reason they picked Vinny. Dude's a big fan of the series and is partly what got the title its fame in the first place - it's only fitting he previewed the last chapter.

As for the Daycare puzzle, watching him and the chat struggle made me think of ways to improve its design, so I'm really okay with it. Vinny was one of the first big streamers to pick up FAITH. I do have an idea for Chapter III, since I've noticed that folks are not into the jarring screech whenever the butt-demons show up. Instead of having the butt-demons...Well, announce their presence, I think the music/ambience should let the player know that there is danger. Either through distortion, or maybe a sort of "growling" bass. It lets the player know that they should hurry up and flee without damaging ears with loud screeching.

in all honesty the faith 3 screech is not that bad if you just turn the volume down a bit, I'm surprised vinny didn't have his limiter on. ||not really relevant to anything here but i feel like he really doesn't want to stream anymore and has just been letting what he normally did for quality control to slide downhill. obviously i can't confirm this but it's just the vibe i get from him lately compared to other streamers i've been watching who are pretty obvious about how much they enjoy streaming as their job.||

I think the gold cross has been confirmed to be Father Allred's, the silver one is likely just because Chapter II was a dream/nightmare, and John's own is likely the wooden one

to answer your question, meta symbolism doesnt necessarily translate directly into literal rules in world. yes, john's cross colours symbolise a steady decline in his faith, but hes not literally downgrading them. as stated before, the gold one wasnt his, the silver one was in a dream, and the wooden one is his. when your english teacher tells you to explain why the main character has blue curtains and you say "its cause hes sad", he didnt literally pick them cause he was sad. he didnt go "oh im sad now im changing them to blue". its purely for the audience to have some symbolistic insight into his mental state.
so no, this isnt inherently some strict guideline as to who can be possessed or not.
